I’m pretty sure my life sucked until I decided to take risks. Just thinking of the unknown made me want to stay in my shell. I felt comfortable there. It was safe. While there is nothing wrong with being safe, I couldn’t shake the feeling in my gut that told me I was missing out on life. It was passing me by. So, last year I decided I wasn’t letting another moment slip away. I chose myself over everything else and released what was holding me back. Here are 5 risks that will help you live unapologetically.

1. Cast out your inhibitions in vulnerable moments.

By nature, we tend to shy away from things that can make us feel vulnerable. What would happen if you fought that feeling and did the unthinkable? I know what you’re thinking… a disaster! I’m not going to lie. It could absolutely be a total disaster. On the other hand, it may be the best thing you’ve ever done. Most people are so excited they overcame the obstacle itself, the end result just wasn’t important anymore. It became the icing on the cake. We already know what happens if you don’t go for it and quite frankly, aren’t you tired of wondering what would have happened if you went through with it?

2. Do something completely out of your element.

This is more than wearing silver when you love gold. I am talking about getting out of your comfort zone to do that thing you keep thinking about. So what if people will judge you. They do that anyway. Someone is probably talking about you right now and guess what, you haven’t even taken the chance yet. Join a Meetup group and actually go to the event to meet strangers. Grab the mic on karaoke night if you are the one who sits back to laugh at everyone else. If you’re afraid of public speaking, challenge yourself to get in front of people and talk. Face your fear!

3. Move on when it’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do.

This is easily one of the most difficult things to do. When you put time, energy, and love into something, you want to see it work. What if it isn’t working? How long do you hold on? That answer is ultimately up to you, but if you feel it deep down inside, chances are it’s time to take a risk and leave. That time away will give you what you need to think about the future and what you really want for yourself. If you reunite with who or what you let go one day, maybe it was meant to be. For now, take a risk and live without that someone or something holding you back.

4. Forgive.

You’re probably wondering why I just said move on, then brought up second chances. For the purpose of this post, I am talking about forgiveness. We are all human. We all make some weird, mindless, irrational decisions because no one is perfect. Some of the strongest people I know mastered the art of forgiveness. Based on how hard this is for me, I feel very comfortable calling this an art. Even if you don’t allow someone back into your life, forgiveness for the wrong done to you can do wonders! Life is short and people who spend time embracing forgiveness are so happy that it’s almost annoying. Totally kidding! Forgive- you don’t have to forget, learn, grow, and live.

5. Appreciate your body.

I have yet to meet a person who is 100% happy with their appearance. I haven’t done extensive research, but I don’t think that person exists. If that person does, kudos to them! By now, you know exactly what you don’t like about yourself. Doesn’t matter if you get compliments galore… you struggle with certain things about your body.

When I ask my clients what they love about themselves, it’s very common to see them have trouble answering that question. It makes sense though. I get it on a personal level! How often do we look in the mirror and say, “Wow. I really love my arms today.” That probably NEVER happens. So, stand in the mirror often and tell yourself what looks great. Don’t worry about all the other stuff. Be your own fan in those moments, appreciate your body, and don’t hold back. It feels pretty good!

Taking risks can be scary, but it’s the only way to get out of your comfort zone. Pick one and give it a try if you’re still on the fence. You owe it to yourself to be free and live unapologetically. I gave into risk-taking and guess what? My life doesn’t suck anymore!
