When you have the opportunity to ask some of the most interesting people in the world about their lives, sometimes the most fascinating answers come from the simplest questions. The Thrive Questionnaire is an ongoing series that gives an intimate look inside the lives of some of the world’s most successful people.

Thrive Global: What’s the first thing you do when you get out of bed?
Nikki Sharp: Before I’m even out of bed I drink 1 full cup of water (typically with a mint tea bag inside), then I make either a matcha latte with turmeric, cinnamon, and coconut butter or a coffee then get back into bed to journal and meditate.

TG: What gives you energy?
NS: Exercise! I also get fueled (energized) when I’m with clients or speaking with people about health because I’m so passionate about this subject. I love the saying, “do what you love and you will never work a day in your life” because it really does show you how following your passions can energize your life.

TG: What’s your secret life hack?
NS: Stress less and drink that glass of wine. We know stress is the root of almost all diseases and I’ve battled my fair share of negative things in my life so now I make ME time a priority, which can often include a glass of wine and not feeling guilty!

TG: Name a book that changed your life.
NS: The Journey Home by Radhanath Swami. It’s spiritual, funny, enlightening and opened my eyes to so much beautiful change that was ready to happen in my own life.

TG: Tell us about your relationship with your phone. Does it sleep with you?
NS: I turn it on night mode (so there’s no notifications) and either put it on the otherside of the room or in a different one at 10.30pm. I’m human so sometimes this doesn’t happen, so if I find myself not sleeping well it’s typically because I’ve fallen out of this routine.

TG: How do you deal with email?
NS: I star the ones I need to do urgently and respond to things asap if it’s a quick and easy one. I don’t like letting things sit in my inbox and normally only have 30 unread emails at a time. I believe how your inbox looks is a peek into how you go about the rest of your life, and I like to keep mine in order and de-cluttered; the same as my house.

TG: You unexpectedly find 15 minutes in your day, what do you do with it?
NS: Call a friend! Living in LA I manage to find these extra 15 minutes quite often and love using this time to connect with friends or my parents to say hi. This nourishes me very much.

TG: When was the last time you felt burned out and why?
NS: Can I say right now? My second book is coming out May 1, and book launches are always very stressful! There is so much planning, organizing, media, and constantly being present to every detail that happens so it can become very easy to get out of balance and face fatigue and burnout. That’s why it’s SO important that I keep myself in check and schedule time with friends, massages, and al those things we think we “don’t have time for.”

TG: When was the last time you felt you failed and how did you overcome it?
NS: I’m not sure I have an exact ‘moment’ of when I think I failed, but 2017 was a tough year because I lost passion for my brand because I wasn’t sure what my value was to the world. This was a hard lesson to go through however through a lot of inner work, meditation, traveling, and listening to my intuition I learned that I wasn’t speaking my truth which wasn’t allowing me to truly help people in the way that I knew I could. Once 2018 hit, I realized that my brand is about sharing knowledge in order to help others take their power back and in understanding this, I was able to shift my focus off of ‘me’ onto serving others.

TG: Share a quote that you love and that gives you strength or peace.
NS: “You have to say NO to a lot of good things in order to say YES to a lot of great things.”
