Do you ever wonder why we are here, and how to really make the most of life?

Ultimately every human being wants to be happy and fulfilled. It’s what we strive for. But where do we start?

I spent my twenties looking in all the wrong places, mainly using drugs and alcohol. I had a high paying job, great friends, always partying and celebrating business successes, and someone looking from the outside might have thought I had it all. So why was I miserable and empty?

To understand it, I first had to face the truth. One day I looked at my life and it was unrecognisable from what I’d imagined my life would turn out like. I was at rock bottom, lying hungover in my living room, and in my head I heard the words ‘this isn’t how its supposed to be, this is not what you came here for.’ In that instant I knew I could turn it all around and create a life so good I would pinch myself.

Down the spiritual rabbit hole I went, studying, attending course after course, finding myself along the way.

I went on a mission to uncover strong abilities within myself and harness them to clear away all the doubt and disbelief that stood in my way. I found an amazing method, not that I knew it then. I started to listen to my soul, she showed me the way. And with it I manifested a life beyond my wildest dreams and attracted things that I truly deserved: the most amazing husband ever, a tribe of transformational friends who support me, my dream home, trips around the world a few times a year.

And if I could do it, so can you! We all have the capacity to turn our desires into our reality, our soul knows the way. As human-beings we’re more powerful than we’ve ever been taught, and we have the potential to design and create amazing lives that work for us, enable us to do our Dharma and allow ourselves and the planet evolve. Creating the life of your dreams doesn’t have to be a struggle, you just have to take it day by day, step after step.

So how did I do it?

I thought deep and hard about why I was unhappy, and didn’t hold back. The reason was I had no meaning, life wasn’t flowing, I had no purpose to my life. I wasn’t aware of that at the time, but I was on the wrong track, not following my path. When you start thinking about why we are here on earth, you start to realise that ultimately we are all here to follow our bliss – and do our Dharma.

Doing our Dharma is not taught in schools so we usually wake up to it when unhappiness or trauma strikes. But we all came here for a reason: our Dharma is the path of right action, the path that is of maximum benefit to ourselves and the planet. We have each been blessed with a unique set of gifts and talents and when we use those in service to others, our passion and lives come alive. We are designed this way, and it is hard wired into us.

In fact, studies have proven that when we are altruistic we are happier and healthier, and live longer.

Expressions like follow your bliss have meaning: life is not meant to be hard, we are meant to go towards our highest excitement in any given time, and this in turn will lead us to what we are meant to be doing here on earth.

It really shouldn’t be this hard to create an amazing life for our selves: a life that is both fulfilling and full of meaning. It starts with taking the first steps towards it, and auditing our life – as scary as it may sound, it is necessary to assess what to change.

Start by asking yourself where you could add more bliss in your existence. What is it that you love doing? Can you use it to serve others? Who do you want to serve? Don’t let this process overwhelm you, and remind yourself that this is all purposed to make you happier. It is not meant to complicate your life, on the contrary.

Sit down and take the time to assess things clearly, and be honest with yourself. Taking notes also helps. By making a habit of journaling it all, you’ll make sure you don’t miss anything. Write down your dreams, your ideas, your blocks, your questions, your ideals and solutions, and assess how each makes you feel. Journalling will show you the direction to take to change your life, and where to take that first step.

Take this tip from someone who has done it, always follow what lights you up. After all your inner gut is your inner navigation system. And don’t take on too much: one thing a day is enough to walk towards your new path.

If you are not sure where to start, start small. Having interviewed over 70 thoughts leaders on this path, the results and impact on their lives is amazing.

After a while this will all look easy to you, and you will be able to audit and architect your life regularly. A yearly check up is a good way to see if you are on track on a personal and emotional level, and plan ahead for the year to come. For example, one of my yearly rituals around New Year’s Eve is to plan my year and consciously create my growth.

Think about how you can streamline things that creep in year by year. Clear out the cobwebs, set targets, and get yourself straight for the year ahead.

When we do our Dharma, life responds in ways we never thought possible. Alignment with Dharma truly gives a sense of purpose to life. By doing our soul work and designing our lives, we take the power back and focus our powerful energy on consciously creating our destiny.
