What is passion? Merriam-Webster defines passion as “a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something.” Passion is a powerful, driving force that helps us live with excitement. It’s our zest, our enthusiasm for life. It helps us accomplish great things and helps us persevere when times are tough. Here are some strategies you can use to find your passion. Declutter Your Life
In today’s crazy-busy world, it’s easy to get distracted from what truly matters to you. It’s important to create the time and space in your life to discover who you are and what you love.
Decluttering multiple areas of your life can be helpful as you search for your passion. You can declutter your schedule and start saying no to activities that drag you down. You can declutter who you spend time with, and surround yourself with passionate people. You can declutter your environment to give yourself more space for what you love. Discover Who You Are Lions and sharks are both amazing creatures. Both are fast, strong, powerful, and majestic. Put them in the wrong environment, though, and they won’t exactly thrive. If you put a lion in the ocean, or a shark on land, they won’t last long. Just like the lion and the shark, you have certain innate strengths and gifts that will shine in the right environment, and the only way to be sure you’re in the best environment is to discover who you are. If you’re seeking to do work you’re passionate about, start learning about yourself. Are you detail-oriented or a big-picture thinker? Are you innovative or do you prefer to follow a set path? Would you rather work indoors or outdoors? Do you enjoy being surrounded by many people as you work, or do you thrive when working alone? Would you love having a flexible schedule and being spontaneous during the work day, or do you do better with a set schedule? Are you someone who shines as a leader, or are your innate strengths more compatible with being behind the scenes? When you really get to know who you are, you can start placing yourself in environments and situations conducive to you thriving. Start a Scavenger Hunt Start looking for things that pique your interest. Pay attention to what turns your head, and learn more about those topics. Experiment and look for clues to what you like and what you don’t like. Start writing down the things that excite you and the things that leave you feeling drained. Write down what totally lights you up and what you can’t stand. Take action over and over and gather data about yourself. Move Your Body It’s easier to feel totally fired up if you have the strength, energy, and stamina to go after your dreams. Not sure what you’re passionate about? Exercise. Exercise can cause the release of endorphins – the feel-good hormones. When you feel your best you can be your best. Moving your body can help you feel more alive which can help build your confidence, momentum, and enthusiasm. Also, carving out time in your schedule to exercise can give you the solitude and space to reflect on what matters most to you. Start Creating the Life You’re Craving Start creating the life you’re seeking right now, in your current circumstances. Start showing up invigorated in your role at work, and in your personal life. Show up as someone who is totally engaged and fired up. Start setting and tackling your goals. Commit to living with excitement and bring passion to your daily activities starting now. Show up with energy and enthusiasm every day. Shake up your daily routine so you get out of your rut, because it’s hard to feel passionate if every day is the same thing. Get out of your comfort zone to try new things, and be fired up as you learn them. Finding your passion takes effort, but it’s so incredibly worth it. Keep seeking your passion. Find and do what allows you to shine bright. When you discover and do what ignites your soul, you give everyone around you the hope and permission that it’s possible for them too, and you start a ripple effect that changes your family, your community, and the world.
