What were the forces at work that helped create your unstoppable path? Or are you still in pursuit of your purpose?

I navigated college without the assistance of parents. My mom left when I was around ten, then my dad died when I was 16. I had older sisters who didn’t go to college and encouraged me to head right to work after high school.

I knew I wanted something different for myself. I wanted a different future for me and my kids.

Fast forward 30 years and I have three amazing daughters who have created their own unstoppable future. They exceed me in every way and that’s GREAT, because when I set out to create my career it was in dedication to the next generation of women. In fact, my 16 year-old daughter often uses the words she hears me using in coaching others to coach me.

I’m a supporter of the KPWE Unstoppable Women luncheon and scholarship program because it supports women without a support network. In Ellevate, we have each other. Here’s how you can create your unstoppable path.

1) Get a mentor.

Look at this global network of women. Pursue someone who is the person you want to be and make a coffee date, virtually if not physically.

2) Get a coach.

There’s a crucial difference between a mentor and a coach. A mentor has been where you want to go. A coach helps you discover your unique path by asking really good questions that lead you to discover and own your journey, talking down the monkeys that get in your way.

3) Be the change.

This has become almost trite. We hear Gandhi’s words, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” and wonder how to do that. Imagine the woman you are becoming and be that woman in the way you act, communicate, dress, and conduct business.

The cape already has your name on it. Don’t wait for someone to hand it to you or give you permission to craft your unstoppable future. The future is already yours to have.
