You find out who you really are when adversity comes into your life.

Jamieson Murphy known as JM Visuals found his calling for photo and film after his father passed away from an automobile accident. This left JM shocked, confused and scared to grow up without a father figure when he was just 13 years old.

Losing his father led to the creation of his first video. He made a slide show of family photos to his parents wedding song and the video took off way more than he expected. After receiving so much feedback he started making more short films. One video he created got posted on the towns Facebook page and thats when Jamieson Murphy became JM Visuals.

Fast forward a few more years and another hardship fell into his lap. Jamieson’s mother passed away from a long battle with cancer.

“She was there for me every day of my life and I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without her love and support.” – JM

Jamieson has taken these hardships and turned them into a successful life, living out his dream taking photos and creating films working with celebrities and famous artists.

What drives you to get out of bed every morning?

Instagram drives me to get out of bed every morning LOL… no I’m kidding. That’s actually a good question… I really enjoy motivating others, helping others with their hardships, helping them with photo/video critiques, etc. and by others, I mean my followers, co-workers, friends and family.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? What lesson did you learn from them?

Yes, my mom 1,000,000%. All of my success, work ethic and kindness are because of how loving and supportive she was. I lost my dad in 2009, two days after Christmas, I was 13 years old going on 14 and in 8th grade at the time. I literally never ever thought of losing a parent, that’s not really something that runs through an adolescent’s mind.

Since I basically grew into a young man with just my mom around, she was both my mother and father figure, she drove me to sport practice, friends’ houses and made me into the person I am today. She taught me the meaning of living your life to the fullest and having fun along the way. Even though there are ups and downs with any life, you just need to be able to push through it all one foot in front of another. Unfortunately for me, I lost my mom in June of 2017, she was 57 years old and passed from a long and painful battle with cancer.

How do you push through your worst times?

I don’t dwell in the past and I try and tell people every day, you just need to put one foot in front of the other and move on. As cliché as it sounds, you just need to live everyday like it’s your last. Also, music helps me keep my head up and push through my hardships. Just like everyone has their own cure for things, music helps me out in every aspect of life. If I we’re without music, I don’t know where I’d be. Some of my favorite music artists/DJ’s are Tiesto, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Marshmello, Autograf, Cash Cash, Robin Shultz, The Chainsmokers, Tory Lanez, G-Eazy, 6lack, Russ, Wiz Khalifa and Logic.

If you could travel back in time to before you started, what 3 tips would you give yourself and why?

  1. Start earlier to get the B.S aside and master your craft earlier than later. I say that because once you get the B.S. out of the way, you can grow your brand, make a name for yourself and help others along the way.
  2. Cherish the little things in life, family time, family trips, friends, etc., you never know when they won’t be there anymore.
  3. Don’t dream too big, because sometimes this life, industry and people can take over your life and you can dig yourself into a deep hole and it will be/can be hard to get out of it.
