This week my dad had open heart surgery (he is in recovery, he made it!!), and it had me thinking all about regrets.

Our time passes too fast to settle. At times we feel like we are invincible but that couldn’t be further from the truth – in the blink of an eye that can all change. All of a sudden, all of your big dreams and “some days” are gone.

What is it, that if you don’t do it (or at least try), you will regret?
Are you willing to give up your life and settle for the current mediocre scenario that you’re not even happy in?

Here is the thing – we think of regrets and think, “that only happens to other people”. Here we go again thinking we’re invincible. Thinking that we still have time. We rationalize to justify the current scenario we’re in. The one where you’re stuck. If this sounds like you – listen closely.

If you allow it, you will rationalize and “someday” yourself all the way to your death bed.

You need to break yourself out of this now. Do you want to look back on your life with pride, gratitude and joy? Or are you on the path to look back and be bitter and resentful? If that’s the case you need to do something about it now.

The barriers that you see holding you back are ones you’ve probably created in your own mind.

  • First you have to decide, really commit to taking charge of your life and living the bold path. There is no room for “maybe” here. It’s either a clear yes or a hard no.
  • Next, you need to get really clear on what it is that you want, what it is you’ll regret of you don’t do it, and what is in your way. What’s been holding you back all these years? Probably a fear. Fear of what?
  • Then you start doing. You start taking action and you consistently do the uncomfortable thing. You keep pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone. The more you do, the more confident you’ll become and your fears will become smaller and smaller.

My advice? Hire a professional. A trained coach has been here before, helps his/her clients with this type of stuff all the time and odds are, have personally gone through this work on themselves in order to be able to help you. Doing this alone is not impossible, but it’s much more challenging and easier to blow off if no one is watching and helping you.

Before you know it you’ll be showing other people how to regret-proof their lives, and I know that’s what you want – to grow yourself and make an impact while doing it!

Think about this – what’s bigger? The fear you have of taking action or the immense pain and regret you’ll experience if you do nothing?

Take that into your day and weekend and see how your choices change.
