This interview is with Derek Hurtado, CEO of Pivotal Point and SIR Global. He is an up and coming Arizona entrepreneur that has been taking big leaps at new opportunities.

This is how he was able to achieve what you can if you just take the leap of faith.

How Did You Take on New Opportunities?

Derek: My first massive opportunity was hopping on the Instagram train early on.  I noticed a niche of products that could not be advertised through paid media (tobacco, cannabis, guns etc).  With a strong focus on content, I reached out to these brands and offered Instagram growth and account management to stand above their competition. In taking action on this opportunity, I was able to grow my first six figure company.

The second opportunity arose when I was at a networking event.  Two gentleman spoke on their creative AirBnB model to make consistent cash flow. As a past uber driver, I knew the power of co-sharing and how uber took out the taxi industry.  I placed my bet that AirBnB will replace hotels. Luckily, I was right and my newly formed AirBnB business, Sir Global, has taken off exponentially. We currently have close to 20 properties in multiple countries over a period of less than six months and every week we are adding to it.

Tips on How To Take New Opportunities

Derek: To become a great entrepreneur,  I recommend focusing on sales, leadership, speaking, and finances. These four areas allow you to hop into any business and scale it.

  • Sales and Persuasion are important abilities necessary to convince customers of your service or product.  It is important to convince investors and other companies to partake or collaborate. Sales is a permanent skill that can be used in any business.
  • Leadership is another timeless skill.  No matter what the company is, scaling can only happen by building a team.  If you can build a team then you can scale any business.
  • Speaking can help you sell on stage, persuade over the phone or inspire in a video and podcast content.  Speaking is a fundamental ability and is lacking greatly in the entrepreneurship community. You need to give a voice to your opportunities.
  • Managing finances and understanding your numbers is extremely important.  An idea can only become real with money. Fueling a business with positive cash flow and managing spending allows you to take a sinking ship of a business to the top of the charts. I highly recommend educating yourself on business finances.

What Advice Do You Have on Taking New Opportunities?

Derek: Opportunities are always around us, it is our lack of awareness that prevents us from noticing.  In order to become aware of new opportunities one must improve their awareness.

That means surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals, staying healthy, and keeping up to date on new trends.

Besides being in the right mindset, going to the right places can also help! Networking events, Podcasts, and online press (like this website) allows you to tap into what is current and trending in entrepreneurship.

Just one idea can spark your own and lead you to your next six or seven figure business!
