Our morning started, with a simple kiss and a Happy Anniversary.  My husband then retreated to the shower to prepare for the workday ahead. In a rare act of selflessness, my teenage son took the dog out, without giving us a hard time.

Around 9am my husband emerged from the kitchen and brought me coffee in bed, something he has started doing since working from home… I have decided to keep him around. 😉

An hour or so later, as we unpacked and wiped down the most recent shipment of provisions, a fight between my kids ensued, over hidden Oreos, the current sugar laden sweet of choice. We definitely don’t usually have these high fructose corn syrup infused treats lying around, however these are extraordinary times.

Once resolved, we stole a moment to exchange our gifts, Starbucks ground pike coffee(his fave) and 2 candles were gifted to the hubby(a few of the 16 year recommended gift suggestions I found online) and dried flowers for me. Sadly, the florists have closed and our local market had been stripped bare.

BLT sandwiches(making sure to use all the leftovers as to not waste) enjoyed over lunch, followed by a mid afternoon walk with Navy, our restless Wheaten Terrier.

Surprise homemade peanut butter cookies and brewed Starbucks pike blend(great gift idea if I do say so myself) for an impromptu coffee break, delivered by moi, in the late afternoon.

Champagne popped by my love at 6:15, with Coldplay’s Green Eyes playing in the background. This was my husband’s song to me on our wedding day, which we danced to only 16 short years ago.

Drinks with a view in our bedroom, currently offering a most picturesque view of spring trees in full bloom. And then, a few steps over to a seat by the window for more ambience at makeshift lounge, Chez Trevi(my husbands name is Trevor ;)), where we finished our cocktails before heading off to dinner.

On our walk from the bedroom, an spontaneous game of indoor basketball between my son and husband broke out, before he ran downstairs to retrieve our delivered appetizer and entrees from local restaurant, The Greek, while I set the coffee table.

Dinner at the most romantic place in town- our living room.  Kids have retreated to bed for the night.. one can dream right?

A lovely and most delicious dinner was savored, with flavors that transported us to Europe for just a short while, as we browsed through our hundreds of wedding photos. For a moment, Covid 19 took a backseat thought in our minds.

8:22 pm My teen emerged from his room, seeking out those dreaded Oreos. We bargained with him to clear our plates and in return I sent him on a scavenger hunt to find them, which provided outstanding entertainment.

As we proceeded to walk down memory lane sending pics to family and friends, we indulged further with a bottle of one of our favorite wines. Then my tween entered out from under her iPad and both kids humored us briefly in some banter about the photos before proceeding to have one more, as my dear friend from the UK says, kick off over those damn Oreos. As the night winded down, there was no Uber to be hailed nor a long drive home. With just a few short steps to our bedroom, we were able to retire for the night in mere seconds and fire up our latest guilty pleasure, Season 3 of Ozarks. Of course, the kids are still lingering at this point. Gone are the days of 7pm bedtimes.

Although the initial idea of celebrating our anniversary at home was underwhelming like many things these days, it wound up being one of the best we have ever had. We used a little creativity and a dash of humor to make it noteworthy. If there is one thing many of us have learned during this unreal and challenging time, it is the beauty of simplicity.
