Isn’t it time we changed our perception of hypnosis and embraced it for all its benefits?
Did you know that even if you have never had hypnosis, you will be surprised to know that you enter into a hypnotic state multiple times a day. Day-dreaming is hypnosis. The moment you drift off into a relaxed stated during a movie or whilst listening to music is hypnosis. And whilst we are in this state, we bypass the critical mind and are more open to positive suggestions and consequently change.
Hypnosis has the ability to unlock stored emotions in the mind and body which consequently makes way for good health – a clear mind means a healthy body. Hypnosis works by rewiring the subconscious mind with positive suggestion and has the power to release stored emotions whilst creating new beliefs and habits in the mind. Think of it like trapped energy being released and allowing a natural flow to resume and harmony restored within our body.
Our subconscious mind is incredibly powerful, it’sis like a huge memory bank and its capacity is virtually unlimited. It permanently stores everything that ever happens to you. Did you know that, by the time you reach the age of 21, you’ve already permanently stored more than one hundred times the contents of the entire Encyclopedia Britannica. With that said, every emotion both good and bad from our childhood gets logged, hence why as an adult you might get an overwhelming feeling of happiness when you are on the beach, waves crashing, sandcastles being constructed because your mind has transported you back to the feelings of happiness you will have experienced as a child on the beach. Equally, when someone shouts aggressively at you in a car park it might trigger a feeling of fear or anger, regressing you back to the feelings you had when being shouted at by an abusive adult. The function of your subconscious mind is to store and retrieve data. Its job is to ensure that you respond exactly the way you are programmed. It is therefore hugely important to be conscious of our self-talk, the way in which we communicate with our conscious mind to our subconscious mind. Your conscious mind commands and your subconscious mind does exactly what it’s told. It works day and night to make your behaviour fit a pattern consistent with your thoughts, hopes, and desires. The power of hypnosis lies in its ability to rewire your thoughts.
Once we understand the power of our mind, we can go further and look at the mind body link. The word psychosomatic refers to physical symptoms that occur for psychological reasons. Tears and blushing are examples of this, but they are normal responses that do not represent illness. It is only when psychosomatic symptoms go beyond the ordinary and impair our ability to function that illness results. It has been proven that if we are unwell and we adopt a positive mental attitude, we will have a better chance of recovery. Then there is the flip side, when people unconsciously think themselves ill. I have treated many clients with a condition or ill health as their main concern and and found that events from their childhood that is the root cause and reason behind their current state of health. Clear the emotion behind the ailment/disease and sure enough, the ill health has gone. If we can understand the way in which our brain works, alongside our own subconscious patterns of behavior and the early memories and events that have shaped it then we can go a long way in changing our internal chemistry.
We are the placebo, we just need to activate it within. Our body and mind connection are more powerful that we can imagine. The first step is to be conscious of our behaviours and events behind them. Your subconscious mind grows either flowers or weeds in the garden of your life, whichever you plant by the mental equivalents you create. Choose your words carefully.
