Some of you may be thinking, oh my goodness, that is disgusting, but I really didn’t have access to a shower while in Arizona and as much as I wanted to shower, I felt like I didn’t really stink.

I brought a dry brush with me which helps remove dry skin. Usually I use it before showering, but during my 7 days of traveling, no rinse was available. I dosed myself in essential oils and I brushed my hair a lot and wore a hat after day 3 to avoid being stared at for my greasy hair.

Although I felt a little gross for not showering due to social norms, I learnt something very valuable, we are so privilege and lucky to be able to shower, once a day, sometimes twice a day. Not only are there people in other countries not able to access clean water for bathing, there are many people suffering in our own communities who haven’t showered for weeks.

This was a huge wake up call for me.

During the first couple days of the trip, I kinda started to whine and complain but after driving by a few less fortunate people, and being reminded by my partners trip to Nigeria, I thought damn, I’m so lucky and the last thing I should be worried about is a shower right now.

When we put ourselves in the shoes of others, we start to recognize the amount of opportunity and privilege we have and how grateful we should be for the small things.

A shower to most of us is no big deal but to some others, it’s a blessing, its a miracle.

So, next time you go an shower, show your gratitude for the clean water running through your taps, to the clean towel in your cupboard and the soap sitting on the shelf, I know I will.

Have you gone without a shower for days, I would love to learn more. Comment below and tell your story.

Keep being real.

Love, C.

Update: I’m now clean and showered.
