What’s the first thing you do when you get out of bed?
The first thing I do every morning is literally get on my knees and pray thanking for divine favor and continued mercy to the Creator of Heaven & Earth. Then, I check my emails. Living on the East Coast my day starts earlier and I’ve usually received an email or text from a business associate that’s on Mountain or Pacific Time Zones. Simultaneously, I routinely text my loved ones good morning so that they know they are loved & thought of.
What gives you energy?
Entrepreneurship is my stimulant. I’m fueled with high energy by the goals and challenges that I daily strategize and strive to achieve. I’m consumed with SportieCups branding and distribution.
What daily habit or practice helps you thrive?
I read Psalm 23, Matthew 11 vs 25-30 and Deuteronomy Chapter 8 daily! I exercise a minimal of four times a week training my whole body. This consists of a mile on the treadmill, strength training with free weights and 1000 abdominal combined crunches and ab-roller exercise repetitions. Mind-Body-Spirit balance is my thrive.
Name a book that changed your life.
The Holy Bible. I don’t consider myself religious. I’m more Spiritual, but I strap on my spiritual sandals and I walk with the characters in the Bible relating it to my life’s experiences and the experience of my face-to-face interactions with The Divine that has held me close. My life is an epistle and when read in conjunction, will reach the depths of an on-looker’s personal hell and pull them up by their sandal straps.
Tell us about your relationship with your phone. Does it sleep with you?
Erika Badu sings a song, “I can make you put your phone down” (laughing). My iPhone 10 is my conduit to my daily assimilation. I use it for all facets required to communicate no matter where I am so I can be responsive. NOTHING can make me put my phone down. I don’t sleep with it, but it’s on my nightstand plugged and on vibrate. I assure all business associates I’m accessible 24 hours a day.
How do you deal with email?
I scan my business emails first daily to identify senders that I know need immediate responses, and these are usually senders in other countries, Pacific or Mountain Time Zones. Once I’m in my office, I routinely sort and respond to all other emails that require my attention.
You unexpectedly find 15 minutes in your day, what do you do with it?
It varies depending on the time of day considering my work day starts early and ends late at night. However, I may replenish with something to eat, or I might just sit and think. My days are usually very well planned and consumed.
When was the last time you felt burned out and how did you overcome it?
Honestly, I don’t burn I churn (laughing). When I need to defrag, I do so. Spend time laughing or having a glass of wine with my wife, play with my Shih Tzu puppies Dolce & Armani. Naturally, observe SportieCups distribution markets watching a sporting event. Go for a ride on my Harley Davidson Road King or ironically, I find serenity washing or polishing my cars or motorcycle (my inventive juices flow because it relaxes me).
What advice would you give your younger self?
The very advice I tell myself decades in the making, “Never give up, never quit. Scratch, claw and fight. When looking at the scars of life remember that to whom much is given much is required”.
Share a quote that you love and that gives you strength or peace.
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” – Steve Jobs
