Isabel McDevitt, relocated to Boulder from New York to put together a program that addresses the complications that the homeless and the communities surrounding them. A piece of her puzzle will no doubt draw from her experience in managing a similar program called “Ready, Willing, Able.” Three years of exceeding expectations at the Ready to Work facility in Boulder means that it was time for Bridge House to open an additional branch and this new location is coming to Aurora.

Not much information on this specific program has been released but since it’s modeled after Ready to Work Boulder it’s safe to presume that the core principles and strategies of Ready to Work in Boulder would be exactly the same.

Trainees are paid an hourly wage and are required to live in the Ready to Work facility they have been selected to join. The duration of stay in the facility is estimated to be 1-year. Ready to Work Housing and Employment Centers.

Eligibility for Ready to Work
To be eligible, potential participants must be looking for a pathway out of homelessness and have a desire to gain employment and stabilize their lives.
Screening and intake interviews are completed and the hopeful resident would be asked to move into the Ready to Work facility immediately. If there were no open beds for new residents then the they are added to a waiting list.
Volunteer internship can last from one to four weeks, Part of the initial screening includes monitoring how much the hopeful resident wants to be accepted . Volunteer duties during this phase is intended to ensure those that demonstrate a real desire to join Ready to Work from someone who says they are in words but fail to demonstrate in action.
Upon successful completion of the internship, participants will begin working as a paid trainee. Ready to Work is voluntary and should not be considered permanent employment with Bridge House.
