It’s not how you start; it’s how you finish.

This is a phrase I’ve said countless times to our girls, especially when they have a rough start in class, or in a game or tournament. But lately, for the last week or so, I’ve been uttering it to myself.

Aside from the sheer evil and awfulness of current events and natural disasters, I’ve witnessed and experienced tons of negativity and bad news.

I’ll be honest, it sucks. And really bums me out.

Now, some of this comes with the territory, however petty and unfair: if you consistently create and share content, chances are someone will dislike it. Or you. Or both. And make sure to tell you and the world. It happens so often that some decide to walk away for fear of future ridicule.

But other events are completely unexpected. So many people close to me have lost loved ones. Others are gravely ill or battling demons.

So. Much. Darkness.

But I truly believe that there is far more goodness, light, encouragement, support, and love in the world than evil, darkness, negativity, and hatred. Focusing on the former helps us generate more of it. From a kind word to selfless act, you have the power to improve someone’s day, week, life.

So let’s turn this week around.

Because it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.
