Jack White, former lead singer of The White Stripes, has announced that his upcoming Boarding House Reach tour will be entirely phone-free, NME reports..
“PLEASE NOTE: this is a PHONE-FREE show,” the singer’s official statement reads. “No photos, video or audio recording devices allowed. We think you’ll enjoy looking up from your gadgets for a little while and experience music and our shared love of it IN PERSON.”
Back in 2014, White implemented a similar approach on tour and was warned that the crowd would be angered by the request. In conversation with Conan O’Brien, White said the crowds actually reacted positively when they were asked to put their phones away. “People loved it, people applauded when we asked for that,” he said. “I think it’s distracting for people in the back who are trying to really watch and they see a sea of blue screens in front of them, between them and the artist.”
This decision comes at a time where more and more artists (take Dave Chappelle and Alicia Keys, for example,) have embraced the notion of a truly live and “human experience.”
