When I first started out I was overwhelmed with the amount of competition out there. There are so many web designers and I thought we were all doing the exact same thing. So in my mind, I needed to have the lowest pricing in order to land clients. One day I was told that my process is very different from the average web designer’s process. I just wasn’t messaging it correctly on my website.I ended up redesigning my entire website and rewriting my copy using psychology. It didn’t take long at all before I started to get more leads and it actually became easier to convert them into clients. Now I have an even better process that I use with all of my clients that allows them to see similar results. – Kristen Ellis

Hello Kristen Ellis, we are excited to share your story with our readers. Please tell us a little about yourself and your work.

Hey, I’m Kristen and I’m a website designer! I studied psychology in school and I found consumer psychology in particular to be absolutely fascinating. But when I graduated, I didn’t want to spend another 4 years getting a masters degree so I applied for a position in eCommerce instead.I ended up spending about 5 years working in eCommerce. At 24 years old, I was laid off due to restructuring within the company. That’s when I decided I wanted to be responsible for my own success financially and professionally instead of relying on the success of other people. So I got another job in eCommerce and began building my own business on the side. I knew I wanted to infuse what I learned in eCommerce and what I knew about consumer psychology into my business. Luckily I was able to do this with web design and turn my passion into a full time business.

How do you differentiate yourself from others in your field?

When I was working in eCommerce I spent a lot of time running tests on websites and analyzing the data. From the copy to the image style to the button text. I was learning what worked and what didn’t. I use my knowledge from these studies as well as new consumer psychology studies when I design websites for my clients.I also learned that having a website that is designed well doesn’t do much unless the copy is written in a way that influences a website visitor to make a certain decision. So I don’t just design and build a website for my clients but I also work with them to write their website copy.I provide the whole package and all of it is using consumer psychology. This education and background is something that not every web designer has.

How do you think technology will affect the way we do business 10 years from now?

Technology is already making it a lot easier for people to get into the online business world. In 10 years, it’s probably going to be even easier for people to leave their 9-5s and start an online business. This just means that there’s going to be even more competition online than there ever was before. In order to get ahead, businesses need strategic websites that will attract and convert leads. It’s not just the design, it’s not just the copy, and it’s not just having good SEO. It’s all of that as a complete package. Without SEO, no one will find you. Without engaging and relatable copy, no one will connect with you. And without a good design, no one will stay on your website. It’s important for people who own online businesses or rely on the internet to be found, to make sure they have a website that is designed using psychology to stand out from their competitors and really attract and convert leads.

How can you be reached if someone is interested in your products or services?

I want to help business owners attract and convert more leads by redesigning their websites using psychology so they can spend less time pitching themselves to prospective clients. Whether you’re running an online business or a location-based business, If you want to see exactly how psychology can be used on your website to attract and convert leads, you can download my free guide here. You can also find me here:
