Learning to Roll With the Punches Sets You up To Have a Happier Life
We only get one life, and sometimes that life is not exactly as we expected. Like Steve Jobs said, "sometimes life will hit you in the head with a brick". When this happens, you can either stay down or pick yourself back up in order to continue striving forward. When people go through bad times in their life they often seek others to console them, but everything you need in order to get through obstacles is inside of you, you just have to dig deeper. For that reason, in this article we will be discussing how to roll with the punches to live a better and happier life and not be a house mouse.
Success
Most, if not all, of the successful people in the world will tell you that success doesn't come easy. As a matter of fact, nothing in life is easy. Even the things that we believe are easy, such as buying a cup of coffee at Starbucks, are extremely hard. It may be "easy" for you to pull out $5 and give it to the cashier, but the amount of work it took for the land to be purchased in order for it to be tilled into land where suitable coffee beans can grow took time. There was pain involved in the process of collecting all those coffee beans and in the transportation to Starbucks locations. All we are trying to say is that life will get hard, we are not born with a manual on "surviving".
What this means is that life will throw many "punches" at you, and you must learn either how to fight back, or how to roll, like the boxers do. If you learn how to deal with life's punches, you will have a happier life, and here's why this is true. Every good thing that's ever happened came out of some sort of adversity. When a baby is born, the mother has to go through excruciating pain, such that some women die giving birth to their child. A chicken is not a chicken until the pressure inside the egg grows enough that the shell breaks and the chick can breathe its first breath. Adversity is good because it allows you to have something to break THROUGH, but many people allow these adversities to break through them. You can see this in every homeless person in the country. Something happened in their life that broke them to the point of giving up.
When you get through something you believed was hard, you look at it as something else, something you were able to overcome and thus feel more confident in yourself. I have personally gone through homelessness, sleeping in my car, and there were some nights were all I had to eat were saltine crackers from the 99 cents store. Looking back at that phase in my life gives me assurance that what I'm currently going through is not AS BAD AS THAT, and thus gives me the confidence that I can get through my current situation.
It's the same with whatever you are going through right now. Understand that it will hurt for a certain amount of time, but as you continue to battle with it you will ultimately win. There's no rule book that says you can't get help so seek it out. Talk to your family or friends, people that you trust, to give you advice, then take that advice with a grain of salt. If life is still punching you super hard, seek out professional help such as a therapist. These people will be your coaches in the ring, when your opponent is a problem, obstacle, or financial situation that is "punching" you, and you're in the last round.
Conclusion
In conclusion in this article we discussed the topic of adversity and why you need to learn how to "roll with the punches" life throws at you. Not only will you become a metaphorical boxer towards life's obstacles, but you will become a happier person knowing that you can get through anything. You know what will make you even happier? Showing other people how to get through similar events. Fight through, and teach others, and you will have a much happier life.
