Around ten years ago, a time when my life wasn’t going in the direction I wanted, I found “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne.

I am always open to book suggestions, but this time my friend Claudia promised a life-changing experience. I was skeptical when she handed me the book, but I decided to trust her and brought “The Secret” home.

Many of you are probably familiar with this book, but I don’t know up to which point it changed your life. While reading, I started to think about concrete examples in my life and all started to make sense. Your thoughts are more powerful than you think and can take you anywhere you want in life with a mix of positive thinking, visualization techniques, and patience.

The other side of the coin was the shocking part—if your life is filled with negative thoughts you will attract the things you are scared of. That was the REVELATION for me—we all have negative thoughts, but the idea that those fears could manifest because I was the one attracting them to my life was hard to process. Then, I started to think about simple everyday examples, like the way a bad day starts with a bad mood, continues with negative thoughts and end with an argument. The book goes even deeper blaming wars and international conflicts on the collective consciousness.

You don’t have to believe everything you read in the “The Secret,” but you can try the suggested techniques to get what you want and see what happens. Since I started to use the law of attraction and write down my wishes everything I wanted has come to me and I learned how to control negative thoughts reminding myself of their destructive power.

I believe that “The Secret” came to me because I needed it in my life. Friends can be vehicles to bring you the book you need, or you can just browse in a bookstore and hear the calling (yes, books call you). That’s how I found “Anatomy of The Spirit” by Caroline Myss and understood the importance of chakras to find a balance in life. After learning about chakras, another friend introduced me to Sahaja yoga, a type of meditation that helps rebalance your energy centers. Like pearls forming a necklace, every new discovery that followed “The Secret” helped me form my personal religion — for me, God is the Universe — our thoughts are the way we can connect with its force and the balance of chakras is the way to a happy and healthy life.

As a reader of non-fiction, I see books as tools to grow and gain self-awareness. If you are looking for life-changing books I have no doubt they will come to you sooner or later.
