Being a person who is super productive from morning until evening, it is an understatement to say that this change of lifestyle rocked my world. I am always on the run; I am always with people and I am always doing. I had to accept that the only thing I can do right now is live for right now, and when I did, that is when I felt the weight lift off my shoulders. As we continue to journey into the unknown, I have found that living in each moment, rather than looking toward the future, helps me remain calm.
Currently, anxiety is high among us all and with good reason. But right now, there is nowhere to go, there is nothing that needs to be done. Staying home is what I can do to help. While my husband and my loved ones are deemed essential, I am not. I stay home for them, with my children, taking it minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day. As far as I am concerned, we are currently in an ever evolving state and until stability prevails, home I stay.
Planning and routine have gone out the window. Enjoying morning coffee without rushing to get ready, preparing two breakfasts, meditating, board games, napping, home projects and taking long, un-timed walks have become the new normal. Focusing on the exact moment I am in allows my mind to zero in on something without it wondering off to negative thoughts. Being able to enjoy phone calls without hurrying off, lounging on the couch and reading a book, or coloring with the kids are activities I can now participate in without guilt. I don’t even have to rush to get my own workout in, I can concentrate on myself for a change. As challenging as these times are, actively choosing to live in the moment, is a beautiful reprieve.
