Thank you so much for joining us, Katie! Our readers would love to get to know you a bit better. Can you tell us a bit about your backstory?

Thank you! It’s great to be here. I’m Katie Molumby, a holistic health coach and the author of Purposeful Health. My passion lies in helping people take intentional steps toward better health and wellness. Over the years, I’ve witnessed how small, consistent lifestyle changes can have a profound impact on people’s overall well-being. My journey began with a deep curiosity about how we interact with our environment and how it, in turn, affects our health. After spending over a decade working in social services, I realized that many health issues people faced were preventable through lifestyle adjustments. That inspired me to dive deeper into holistic health and eventually write my book to help others gain control over their health in a more informed and proactive way.

What inspired you to pursue a career in holistic health?

I’ve always been fascinated by the connection between mind, body, and spirit. Growing up, I saw firsthand how stress and lifestyle choices impacted people’s health. My passion for holistic health grew during my years in social services, where I worked with individuals facing numerous physical and emotional challenges. I started noticing a recurring theme: people were often unaware of how their daily habits, from what they ate to the products they used, influenced their long-term health. This realization sparked a desire in me to educate and empower others to take charge of their well-being by making more conscious, purposeful choices in their lives.

Let’s dive into the topic of hidden toxins in our daily lives. What’s one area that you believe poses the greatest risk?

Water quality is a big one. Many people don’t realize how contaminated our water can be. We rely on water for so much—it hydrates us, it’s essential for cooking, and it’s even absorbed by our skin when we bathe. Yet, even in places where water is deemed “safe,” there are often hidden dangers. Our tap water can contain microplastics, which are tiny plastic particles that accumulate in our bodies over time. On average, we consume about a credit card’s worth of microplastics each week! That’s a staggering statistic. Additionally, heavy metals like lead, mercury, and arsenic have been found in water supplies, posing significant health risks. Chlorine and fluoride are commonly added to kill bacteria and prevent tooth decay, but overexposure to these chemicals can have adverse effects as well. This is why I emphasize the importance of filtering your water, whether it’s with a simple pitcher filter or a more advanced home filtration system.

Air quality is another concern that many people overlook. How does poor air quality affect our health, both indoors and outdoors?

Absolutely. Air quality, both outdoors and indoors, is something we often overlook because we can’t see the pollutants we’re breathing in. Outdoors, we’re dealing with pollution from vehicles, industrial emissions, and, increasingly, wildfires. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, 99% of the global population now breathes air that exceeds safe pollution levels. This is a huge issue, as poor air quality can lead to respiratory problems, increased asthma rates, and even cardiovascular issues. Indoors, the situation isn’t much better. Modern homes are filled with items that emit toxic chemicals, a process known as off-gassing. Carpets, furniture, paint, and even some clothing release harmful substances like formaldehyde and benzene into the air we breathe. Additionally, common household cleaners, especially those containing bleach, can contribute to indoor air pollution. That’s why I recommend switching to natural cleaning products and improving ventilation by regularly cleaning air filters or using air purifiers.

How do electromagnetic fields (EMFs) from modern technology impact our health?

EMFs are an unavoidable consequence of living in a highly technological world. With the rise of 5G, Wi-Fi everywhere, and the constant presence of electronic devices like smartphones and tablets, we’re constantly surrounded by EMF radiation. Studies have shown that prolonged exposure to EMFs can disrupt sleep patterns, increase oxidative stress in the body, and potentially contribute to long-term health risks such as cancer. One simple way to reduce EMF exposure is to turn off Wi-Fi routers at night and limit screen time, especially before bed. You can also invest in EMF-blocking products, like special phone cases or clothing designed to reduce exposure. Grounding practices, such as walking barefoot on grass or sand, can help balance the body’s energy and reduce some of the negative effects of EMFs.

With so many environmental hazards around us, what practical steps can people take to protect themselves?

It starts with small, actionable steps. You don’t have to overhaul your entire life overnight. Start by making simple swaps, like using a glass or stainless-steel water bottle instead of plastic, switching to natural cleaning products, and investing in an air purifier. Gradually incorporate more detoxifying practices into your routine, such as sweating through exercise or using a sauna, to help your body eliminate toxins. Over time, these small changes will accumulate, leading to significant improvements in your health and overall well-being.

For someone who feels overwhelmed by all these changes, what’s your advice for getting started?

I completely understand how overwhelming it can feel to make changes, especially when it comes to something as personal as health. My advice is to start small and stay consistent. Choose one thing to focus on, like drinking cleaner water or incorporating more whole foods into your diet. Once that becomes a habit, move on to the next thing. Remember, health is a lifelong journey, and progress is better than perfection. Celebrate the small victories because those are what ultimately lead to lasting change.

Your book Purposeful Health sounds like a great resource. Can you tell us more about it?

Purposeful Health is more than just a book; it’s a guide that invites readers to rethink their approach to wellness. I wanted to create something that was practical and accessible while covering the full spectrum of health—mental, physical, and spiritual. Over the years, I noticed that many health resources were either overly clinical or too general, leaving people unsure of where to begin or how to sustain changes. That’s why I included over 150 topics in the book, each with actionable advice. The underlying theme is intentionality—hence the title, Purposeful Health. It’s about becoming the expert of your own well-being, taking ownership of your choices, and understanding how even small adjustments can lead to significant improvements. One of my key messages is that health doesn’t have to be restrictive or punishing. It can be a fun, rewarding process that enhances your life. I want readers to feel empowered, not intimidated, by the idea of working on their health.

You offer various health coaching services. How do they help people on their wellness journey?

My services are designed to meet people where they are in their health journey. The first step in working with me is a health history consultation, where we dive into your past and present health status to identify patterns and areas for improvement. From there, I help clients set realistic goals and create personalized action plans to achieve those goals. Beyond one-on-one coaching, I offer group workshops, masterclasses, and soon-to-be-released courses. I believe health coaching is invaluable because, let’s face it, most of us don’t get enough face-to-face time with doctors. Health coaching fills that gap by providing ongoing support, guidance, and accountability. It’s about creating a partnership where the client feels heard, supported, and empowered to take charge of their health.

Where can readers go to learn more about your work and follow you online?
