Get out of the dark and start connecting. How many more resumes are you going to submit through an ATS? People do not recognize that the art of connection is alive and well in our technological world. Without connecting, you are one in a million strangers vying for the same position. What if there was a better way? Here are some foundational tips from a 20 year veteran of recruitment:

1.Know what you want and where you want to do it.

2.Start seeking out article, news, people who work in that industry and for those companies.

3. Update your LI Profile.

4. Reach out to the Talent Acquisition department at the companies you are targeting and send a note of interest.

5. Hire a Career Coach to help define your resume and profile content and guide you through the search, interview and offer.

6. Keep you Career Coach on retainer to assist and encourage you to keep connecting and how to best place yourself in your new career for future success.

In today’s world, you have to connect. It is no longer an option. Referrals are still the greatest means to securing a new position. A Career Coach is worth his or her weight in gold. Find the right one for you.
