A visit to New York City is always special but when coming to the Big Apple to celebrate a monumental birthday- the hubby turning 75, it’s even more important to try and do it right.

We chose to stay at the Andaz 5th Ave, tucked into a corner location smack in the middle of Manhattan -this quiet, unassuming hotel was an absolute gem. We had a view of the iconic New York Public Library landmark right outside our window. Our wellness suite was comfy and spacious and had a full-size soaking tub- my absolute favorite feature in any hotel room!

And The Bar Downstairs (yes that’s the name of the restaurant) was a nice spot to grab drinks and appetizers before the theater or after spending a leisurely day at the MOMA.

To mark this major occasion, we invited 15 friends for a special birthday celebration at the elegant Bungalow restaurant downtown. The dinner could have not been more perfect with every dish beautifully presented and every bite simply delicious!

Is celebrating 75 different? Perhaps or is it just another number carrying us along on a uncharted journey? It seems as we age, we do acquire a bone deep understanding of how to enjoy life more, be more present and appreciate our days through a lens of decades of trials and tribulations that somehow land us at this moment in time.
Women, unlike men are unable to remove themselves from an aging time continuum. Our bodies have us hooked into a perpetual forward motion from child to child-bearer to caregiver to wise woman/crone. Men however seem to have been blessed with the fateful luxury of whirling around in their own life story with little change from one stage to another.
This is a fascinating truth – so celebrating my husband’s birthday, while delightful and well deserved, could have been a celebration for him at 25, 45 or 75 years old.
No matter, New York City is a great place to celebrate a loved one, feel energized, be inspired and have tons of fun. It’s the right blend of food, cultural, music, people, and endless interesting experiences.
