What are you reading at the moment?

Fiction, mostly. Specifically, the trilogy of Rachel Cusk, one of contemporary literature’s most innovative voices. She eschews the traditional novel’s convention of emphasising plot and character, and yet can cast of spell of compulsive readability by  most sensitive observations and brilliant insights into human relationships. Perhaps I also resonate to her view that the future of all arts is the autobiographical.

What’s keeping you awake at night?

I stopped lying awake at nights after I realised it is the prerogative or even affectation of youth who take themselves–and thus the world–too seriously.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

I don’t know since I have never tried to live without anything I truly wanted. But speculating, I would say perhaps I cannot live without my evening ritual of a cigar and one vodka while watching the sunset in Goa, where I live.

What is the hardest thing you overcame?

The temptation to prepare my own response even while the other person is speaking and thus not really listening to him or her.

How did you get out of your own way ?

By having a sense of humour about my own follies and affectations; by not taking myself too seriously 🙂
