Without really being conscious of what you are doing, you sometimes try to run away from your own shadows. Soaking up stress with a brave façade, you present yourself to the world as an independent, confident and happy fellow. But deep inside you, you know you are hiding your fears behind charades.

A direct opposite, which is not less a problem too, is giving in to grief without a fight. Here, you don’t deny the presence of a problem, rather you submit yourself, heart and body, to the gloom. You grieve for weeks, or even years, over issues you have little or no control over.

I’m not denying the health benefits of purging your emotion by crying when you are sad. No. I’m only saying that you need to get over whatever calamity that has befallen you quick enough to continue living well. A continuing moodiness is too expensive to be considered.

Well, my concern here is that neither of these two extremes are good for your wellness. They deprioritise your wellness, so they should not continue any further. You need flexibility and openness in your life. You want to be independent, confident and happy in reality. You don’t want any make-believe in your life.

The key is in steering the middle course that surely leads to an enjoyable stress-free life.

Crush the Mood Killers and Enjoy Your Life

Festivity or not, you want to always be happy. You want to unwind and attend get-togethers with family and friends from time to time. But first you have got to take care of the mood killers.

Brooding over health or workplace issues top this list of mood killers. In most cases, you have health issues on one hand and your career on the other hand. Then sandwiched in the middle, you have your emotional balance and overall wellness.

Instead of brooding, why not get help. Let your family know what is happening to you. It will be unwise for anybody to make themselves a mocking stock by soliciting sympathy, I know; but it is also going to be foolhardy for anybody to want to keep their problems a secret from family and friends. Research findings have established it beyond doubt that you are happier when you spend time with your loved ones.

You can also avail yourself of the abundance succour modern medicine can avail you. This is not 1950. Cancer for instance is no more as dreaded as it was twenty years ago, especially when it is detected at an early stage. With modern medication, you can now undergo a chemotherapy treatment with little or no side effects.

So are stroke, hepatitis, heart-attack and the rest. With the quality of information at your doorstep these days, you can successfully deal with the causative agents of these ailments before they rear their evil head.

So, being diagnosed of a seemingly terminal disease, shocking as that may sound, should not rob you of enjoying your life.

For workplace related issues, identify the problems and set out to find a solution. You may get a more experienced colleague to mentor you or speak about it to a loved one. But when it is a somewhat complicated matter, you may want to see a professional psychologist. This way you will not stress yourself trying to cover up.
