It all started for Marianne Williamson in her mid-20’s when she began reading a set of books called A Course in Miracles, a book on how to forgive. She had no idea at the time that her study of The Course, plus writing and speaking about it, would turn into a 35-year career. Since that moment she has been spending her life’s work writing multiple #1 New York Times best sellers, and speaking to small groups and various charitable causes. Today Marianne is running for president and is dedicated to creating a new political possibility in America.
Nathalie Virem: How did you get involved with the Environmental Media Association (EMA) 3rd Annual IMPACT Summit?
Marianne Williamson: I remember when EMA was founded, so when I was invited to speak, I was eager to do so. It certainly expresses values that I share. Anything that opens the conversation. There’s a line in A Course in Miracles where it says an idea grows stronger when it is shared. And here we are sharing important ideas.
Nathalie Virem: What steps are you currently taking in your campaign to impact climate change & renewable energy?
Marianne Williamson: My policy position is stated in my Marianne2020.com on the “issues” section. The first thing I would do is appoint a world-class environmental scientist and climate crisis activist as the head of The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The EPA would be a magnet for world class environmental scientists and sustainability experts and they would know that they have a president who totally understands that we have 12 years to get this right. In my mind, the debate is over, fossil fuel companies, chemical company executives would simply not be tolerated. This is a national and global emergency. If the president knows that, and the president is empowering people within the EPA and other agencies as well to act accordingly with such things as the green new deal, then we can pull this off in our time.
Nathalie Virem: What would you do as the president to transform the consciousness of the political environment towards healing the living world?
Marianne Williamson: You, yourself, the space that you inhabit within yourself affects the world around you. And people hear you at the level that you speak. A common set of principles on which we stand unifies americans: that all of us are created equal, that all of us have unalienable rights, that governments are instituted to secure those rights. And that this isn’t just about what you can get or what I can get, but about a very serious responsibility that has been given to us, and that we must pass on to our children. The fact that I realize that then impacts everything I stand for, everything I would do as the president. And I think that affects the country, not only in terms of policy, but in terms of the consciousness of people.
Marianne Williamson is working on a campaign that provides Americans the option of choosing another way. In order to have a moral and spiritual awakening in America, we need a conscious leader.
Will we be ready for that?
