Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting Tatiana, a freelancer who took her passion to the next level and started her own branding agency in Orange County, CA – PreTee Creative. Now, I’m sharing her story as a momtrepreneur:
“In school, I did the “responsible” thing. I got a degree in Accounting and Audit (rather than something more creative, like Marketing), knowing that this path would provide me with a steady, secure income for years to come. But after working as an accountant for a few years, I realized it wasn’t for me.
I struggled to find a new job in the Marketing field due to my lack of educational and professional experience, even though I knew I could provide a unique perspective and boundless creativity. After spending most part of my life in Romania, I moved to the United States in 2012 and started a family—and a hobby to showcase my creativity.
I started out making t-shirt designs on Etsy, mostly for people who wanted to order branded items for their businesses. It was a hobby, not a business – a chance to exercise my creativity and test my talents. In the process, I learned so much: how to stay focused, how to sell my services and products, and how to manage every element of my growing business. I’ve also learned a lot about social media, especially Instagram – I’ve grown my account organically to over ten thousand followers in under a year. My big break came when a restaurateur asked me to create some slogans for his company. He referred me to someone else. They both loved my creativity, so I joined a freelancing platform (where I am a Top-Rated Freelancer) three years ago, specializing in branding, naming, and taglines. Soon after, I started working with a graphic designer to create logos and packaging. Then, the full branding requests started coming again…so I decided to start my own agency, PreTee Creative.
It didn’t take long to realize that I’m different than a lot of other agencies. I charge less and am straightforward about pricing. I guarantee client satisfaction. Instead of providing a single round of “take it or leave it” name ideas, I give my clients several rounds, all the while considering their feedback. The result? A 100% success rate. I’ve worked with companies of all sizes, from small start-ups to global corporations. Their positive feedback has reaffirmed that Marketing is the path I’m supposed to follow. It’s not always easy to balance family life (I have two young children!) and building an agency, but “where there is a will, there is a way.””
This year, Tatiana has launched her website www.preteecreative.com a significant step in her path to entrepreneurship. “It’s 100% crafted by me: it reflects my style and personality, so it’s simple but still unique.” She says she’s living the dream, and is embracing the ups and downs that come with owning a growing business. Even though it’s only the beginning of her journey, her positive attitude and boundless creativity will undoubtedly unlock countless doors for her.
