With Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s reported April due date fast approaching, the royal baby watch has officially begun. But even before Baby Sussex’s arrival, Meghan is already making plans to return to royal duties full-time starting in the fall. So, what will Meghan reportedly be doing mere months after welcoming her first child into the world?
According to Vanity Fair, a palace insider confirmed Meghan will make her first official work appearance at the One Young World summit in late October. Meghan is scheduled to attend the London event with husband Prince Harry in tow. Having worked with the global leadership organization back in 2014 and 2016, before Harry was even in the picture, Meghan will reaffirm her ties with the charity.
“Harry is keen to support Meghan in developing her own role and the opportunity to partner with a cause so close to her heart is an ideal stepping stone. All being well with the baby, the timing is perfect for her to expand her Commonwealth work through this new One Young World partnership with the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust,” the source said to VF.
If Meghan and Harry welcome their baby in the next few weeks — just shy of the newlywed’s first wedding anniversary on May 19 — April will become an even more important month for the royals than it already is. Queen Elizabeth II will turn 93 on April 21 and Prince Louis will celebrate his first birthday two days later on April 23. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William welcomed Prince Louis just four weeks before Prince Harry and Meghan’s Windsor nuptials in 2018.
Meghan’s return from maternity leave is also roughly on the same schedule as Kate’s following Louis’ birth last year. The Duchess of Cambridge made her first royal appearance in October, about six months after she first went on leave.
Meghan, who along with Harry decided not to find out the baby’s sex until the big day, will reportedly have a second baby shower in the UK after being on the receiving end of harsh and unfair criticism of her star-studded New York City shower in February.
