It’s been years since I thought I’ve been living on a fast lane. I hit on a pause. Started to live again, this time, real slow. The work that I’ve been doing was great. Its a routine that I do everyday. Nothing new. I guess what adds value to the work that we do is being able to contribute largely not only to ourselves, but to our colleagues and largely to the society. I work as an employee to a 9-5 job. And on weekends as a hotel nurse. Its been sufficient but there still something missing every time I do the best on an activity, may it be on my job, my health– doing exercise, getting more sleep or getting some rest.

I’ve been living at my dormitory not as far to my house to get me to my work as fast as I can. Whenever I get the chance to have a vacation leave or the worst, a sick leave, that’s when I get to say to myself ‘this is the real life’. I get to meet my best friend on a leave. Right then we get to examine how far we’ve done to reach the life that we want, my friend is also a nurse working overseas. We get to catch up on almost every topic that we want. From our friends getting married, from them having their first child. Or getting the most prestigious job abroad or them going on a medical school. We can talk about it as much as we want, but at the end of our conversations, we realized that what we want was having a real conversation with such an adult wisdom and a real heart to heart one. The feeling was like we’ve been onto a retreat where there is an exploration of feelings, hopes & dreams, regret, aspirations, from loss & grief, from getting back up and starting all over again, from failed relationships that we’ve been to and from the new ones that appeared even if we don’t want them anymore.

We can get as much experience that we want, or as long as we tolerate, but I think what matters in the end was the strong bond that we have. I’ve known my friend since junior high and up until now, we realized, not much had changed. We’re still the same persons since then-too young but incredibly has an old-age adult wisdom.

Our families have always been there, few good friends are there to catch you up when you need to slow down, take a hard look on yourself, and discover the wisdom of having a great conversation with a friend.
