One of my mother’s best phrases when life handed me lemons was, “In the grand scheme of things, this means nothing.”

As a child, and now as an adult, I find myself repeating this as a mantra. She was so right. Often when we are in pain, embarrassed, or disappointed, it is all we can manage to feel. This simple phrase opened me up to the possibility of a bigger life, beyond the moment I was in and on many occasions it saved me. Still does. Thank you, Ma. xo
