Mother’s day is almost here. A time to appreciate and cherish moms.
I see my husband two weeks before Mother’s Day scrolling through his computer trying to find a nice restaurant to take me and my little young adults. My children will always be little in my eyes. My two older children making plans to drive home from college to spend the day with me.
We have a ritual in my home. Since they were toddlers they would go in the kitchen with their father and they would make me breakfast. My daughter would help to make the pancakes, my oldest son would help to make the eggs, my husband would make the bacon and my youngest son would toast the English muffins and put cream cheese-n-jelly on them.
Then they would put everything on a tray, and they would all head to my room to surprise me as I was sleeping. Afterward, each of them would lavish me with little gifts and overpriced hallmark cards expressing to me how much they love me and how much I mean to them. Just that alone is enough for me.
Memories that I will cherish forever.
If you are looking to create a special Mother’s Day for the mom that you love, here are some inexpensive ideas like the one I shared above. It’s not about what you spend. It’s about showing appreciation, showing them love, and acknowledging everything did and still do.
A call on the phone, a text, or an in-person moment saying the words, “I Love you, Mom.” Thank you for everything you do. It goes a long way.
If you are looking for some ideas to make this Mother’s Day special, here are a few that will make your mother feel like a queen.
Cook a Suprise Breakfast
Like the family breakfast, I shared with you. Make breakfast for mom. It easy, inexpensive and your mom will feel so loved appreciated. It’s little things like that that make motherhood worthwhile.
Cook Mom Her Favorite Meal
What better gift to give for Mother’s Day than mom’s favorite meal. whether its, Roasted Salmon with Crispy Potatoes and Broccoli, Pomegranate-Honey Glazed Chicken and Squash, or steak on a grill. Surprise mom with a meal that she loves.
Letter of Appreciation
Moms love to know that they are loved by their children. It makes a feel good about ourselves and it makes a feel like we did something right. I’ve kept every letter and every card my kids wrote in because it means so much to me. Take a few minutes and create a letter for mom. Maybe one like “Why I appreciate and love you so much, mom.” The best gift you can give is love.
Have Your Kids Make Mom A Gift
The one thing I truly loved and looked forward to was having the kids give me a gift that they made in school. They would come home with cute picture frames, magnets, and special cards made just for Mother’s Day. Now with Covid, most kids haven’t even been in school. So many kids are learning from home. Take a few hours and help your kids make something special. There are many ideas on the internet with step-by-step instructions. It will be mean a lot to mom. I still have all of my kid’s gifts and they’re young adults.
Schedule Hug Time
If your kids are home make sure you take some time out during the day to schedule hugs. Just don’t give mom one hug for Mother’s day and that’s it. Schedule various hugs throughout the day to show mom that you love her a lot. One hug goes a long way, now imagine if you gave her 3 or 4 even 5 hugs throughout the day. She will feel like she is on cloud 9.
Last Thoughts
No mom is perfect, we all have some flaws. Mother’s day is a day to cherish special moments and memories. You wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them. Also for the people whose moms are no longer living an idea to help the sadness in your heart is to plant a plant in your backyard or by their grave and maybe make a little plack to lay by the plant “in remembrance of___”. With that said to all the moms out there, Happy Mother’s Day!
