What’s your backstory?
I’m a 50% rebel 50% nerd who graduated college at 19 and had nothing better to do. I cultivated a lot of non-committal jobs while writing on the side, until I got a job as a writer at one of the biggest advertising agencies in the country.
I got tired of that too; I hated the office politics and the dress code. So I quit it after almost a year, played professional poker, and then wrote on the side.
I had a lot of experience doing public speaking so on the side, I would accept hosting/ emcee opportunities. When I started doing bigger and bigger events, that’s when I learned I could make so much more if I was the one doing the event.
Now, 7 years later, my events and PR company is still my biggest business, and we have led campaigns for over 100 brands including corporate giants such as Sony, AirAsia, Sharp, BMW, Bosch, Hafele, and Alcatel. I’ve also built 4 other businesses, another one for brick-and-mortar, and the others are online businesses.
Today, I speak, write, and coach a dozen of people help build profitable small and medium enterprises. I specifically help them with cash flow, productivity, and time management.
I know this is not an easy job. What drives you?
My biggest enemy is mediocrity. I was raised to become excellent at all things I do—by my parents, my school, and my mentors. Not giving my best will only be a disservice to these people, the institutions, and to myself.
So what exactly does your company do?
I run a few diverse businesses, but what I’m focusing the most right now is my PR agency, where we get influencers, entrepreneurs, and high level consultants on big online publications so they can boost prospect and investor credibility, justify premium prices, and improve team morale.
Is there someone who made a big difference in your life who helped you get to where you are today? What lesson did you learn from them?
My parents are the best parents anyone could ever ask for. And I mean this objectively. Both of them did not grow up rich, had insatiable entrepreneurial spirits, and always wanted the best for me. They taught me good character, faith, and excellence. The best lesson I learned from them is always act with good intentions. And good will always come out of your actions.
