They say when the chips are down we become innovative, creative and solutions based thinkers. We credited Plato, with the proverb: “Necessity is the Mother of Invention” a phrase that today demonstrates resilience.  We find solutions to challenges by creating opportunities for positive outcomes.

What do you think?

I’ve seen a number of wonderful examples of innovation in the last few weeks that are both heartwarming and inspirational.

We are making every effort to be supportive of each other at a time when no one is an expert on how to navigate the current situation. Everyone is trying their best to be positive and put on a brave face.

We’ve become empathetic and resilient, throw in a little innovation and creativity and you have the recipe for sharing great ideas.

Below is my top 10 list. Ideas I’ve found throughout my social media channels using both self-isolating and social distancing as part of the mix.  Thankfully, we have the internet and phones with social apps so the great ideas are directly linked to various virtual communication tools.

Here is my top 10 list:

1) Floral “porch” deliveries
2) Chefs in a commercial kitchen creating family
    meals with home delivery
3) Balcony Singalongs
4) Virtual networking meetings
5) Recipe share by e-mail
6) Reading bedtime stories to kids — virtual
7) Virtual dance parties
8) Group meditation while in the comfort of your own home and
    sharing the collective experience on-line
9) Step by step instruction on cutting your bangs or dying your
hair -yes, you read that correctly — by virtual appointment
10) On-line courses and educational programs; taking
advantage of the free time and continuing to feel productive

A few of these things have been around in one form or another for a number of years but the way in which they are now being marketed is unique.  The creativity with messaging and visuals is providing an interest that was perhaps taken for granted before we found ourselves with a lot of time on our hands. Our current situation has many of us looking for innovative ways to connect with our communities to not only “talk” but purchase goods and services.

It has me thinking about what will be different when things “go back to normal.”

I believe, we will have all have made a few lasting changes to our personal definitions of wealth, wellbeing and success.

Our new reality will be based on our own unique experience and how we’ve been affected by current circumstances.

In the meantime, we all know that entrepreneurship is the mainstay to our economy.  It is what makes our communities vibrant places to live and work.  Let’s not forget, these are the businesses throughout the year that contribute to our fund raising events and volunteerism. Where possible, I will be supporting some of the innovative ideas I’ve seen posted on-line.

I firmly believe, a little goes a long way. Positive mindset equals positive results.  Individually we may have limited impact but collectively we are able to make a difference by supporting and reconnecting with the people in our networks.

As we continue to navigate these challenging times, we need to encourage innovation and share some of the great ideas by doing our part to support and reconnect with each other.

What is on your top 10 list?

You may encourage someone else to pursue their own great idea!
