This year has had its challenges…

Business and health all round has been difficult for me and for those closest to me this year and as we got past the summer, the days got shorter and darker and so did my mood. It was not a comfortable or pleasant place to be.

And yet now that the new year is only a day or so away, I seem to be filled with a different energy. There are still huge challenges for some of the people I love most in the world, and there is not much that I can do about that apart from be present to support them when they need it, but this is the greatest lesson I have learned this year:

When things have run their course, leave them behind where they belong, and look forward, start anew. Take the best memories and lessons with you, but start afresh.

I figured out that I was holding on to things and people that were no longer in my life and looking for ways to have them back, or keep them in some way, and this resulted in me holding myself back. As soon as I really let go, physically and most importantly, emotionally, I started to see new opportunities, new challenges and  even though we are still in the depths of winter, new light started to show itself.

Is there still apprehension? Of course. The future is still unknown. But what I do know, is that if I keep my eye on that future, clear as I can be on what I want to achieve, what I want to contribute, clear that what I want is there and not behind me, this coming year will be great.

So as you approach this next year, spend  a little time being thankful for what has been, leaving behind what needs to be left there and then look towards the future with fresh eyes. You will be amazed at what you will see and what you will create.
