Overcoming fear, talk about a relevant topic, right?

If you’re reading this in the future, we’re smack dab in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, and for many, fear is at an all time high.

Personal health, losing loved ones, job status, financial security, and business collapse are some of the things people are fearful of right now.

And all of those fears are very real and certainly justifiable.

But here’s the deal, even when life is “normal” people are still controlled by and live their lives from a place of fear.

Fear of judgement, fear of failure, fear of death, fear of public speaking…

Any of those ring a bell? Yea, well they’ll still be there when things return to normal after all of this madness is over. 

So, whether we’re in the thick of a pandemic, or just going about our normal lives, overcoming fear is something we’ve gotta know how to do.

“But how, Justin?!?!” I’m glad you asked.

That’s exactly what we’re going to dive into. So if you want to know the antidote for overcoming fear, keep reading.

The antidote to fear 

The other day, I was listening to an episode of Jenna Kutcher’s Goal Digger Podcast with Christy Wright. 

Christy is the creator of Business Boutique, where she helps female entrepreneurs change their mindsets in order to level up their businesses.

She’s an absolute firecracker, and I loved every minute of the episode.

But, there was one particular thing that she said that stuck with me more than anything else.

When talking about the biggest issues that women face in their careers, she said that fear was the biggest bugaboo of all. 

And when asked how she helps her clients overcome their fears, she said that she helps them to take action! 

Yup, Christy said, “the antidote to fear is action!”

Gah… that’s powerful!

And so simple. Or is it?

Why taking action is hard to do

On the surface, taking “action” sounds so simple to do, right?

Well, unfortunately the type of action she was talking about is committed and intentional action.

It’s one thing to get yourself to do just anything whenever you’re feeling fear.

Hell, running away from the fear is an action. So that wouldn’t be too hard.

It’s another thing completely to get yourself to take action towards the fear in spite of it.

That’s tough, and takes courage to do.

Fear cripples us. It keeps us stuck and paralyzed from moving forward. And it causes so many people to give up on whatever they’re pursuing.

Taking action in the face of fear can feel impossible. Kinda like driving in reverse while looking ahead.

But, it doesn’t have to be that way.

As Jack Canfield famously said, “everything you want in life is on the other side of fear.”

So what should you do then?

Take action!

Just like Christy said she does with her clients, if you’re feeling fear in your life and/or career, then it’s time to take action!

“But… why is action so important?”

Ahhh… now that’s the million dollar question.

And the answer is because it’s the UNCOMMON thing to do!

I just told you that most people are crippled by and retreat from fear. Because of that, the fear always retains its power over them.

But, whenever you decide to take committed, intentional action in the face of your fears, you actually begin to break the power they have over you.

And the more you continue to take action, the more power you take back from the fear. Until, eventually, the fear no longer has power over you at all.

A great example of this in my life was walking away from my full-time, secure job, to start my coaching business.

Financial security was the biggest idol of my heart for most of my life. Every career decision I made was financially driven. 

I hated most of my jobs, but never had the courage to leave, because the fear of financial uncertainty was too much to handle.

It eventually came down to me understanding that either this fear was going to control me forever, or I was going to learn to control it. 

So, what did I do?

I took action!

Even back then, I knew that the antidote to my fear, and the only chance I had at overcoming it, was to take action. 

So I did. 

I left my job, and embarked on this journey of starting my business.

And just like Christy said, taking that bold action in the face of my fear reduced its power over me. 

It allowed me to know that I could take action and come out okay on the other side.

Well, the same goes for you.

You control the outcome

Right now, everyone is dealing with fear to some degree.

But, what everyone isn’t doing, is taking action.

Most are retreating right now, just waiting for life to get back to normal.

Problem is, we don’t know when that will happen, or what “normal” will look like on the other side.

So, rather than sitting back, waiting, and hoping for things to be okay, whether now or any other time in your life, why not take control of your situation?

Why not decide to take the actions that will put you in the driver seat by overcoming your fears?

Fear will always be part of your life, but it doesn’t have to control you.

Only you have the power to determine how much control it will have. And your actions will be the determining factor.
