Love and dating has always been a hot topic for me socially. I am not ashamed to admit that I am in love with the idea of love. My most well known line at one point of my single 20s was to pose as a sex therapist which always made for some interesting party conversations. While some of my wilder party days are over, a recurring topic that sparks titillation at parties these days is – are you on Tinder?

Dared by a date to create a Tinder profile and test it out – I am still proud to say that apart from one night profile by a gay house mate who thought I should be putting myself out (a year after a break up of my long term relationship) I confess that I am still a Tinder virgin.

I asked one of my male family friends about his Tinder experiences and he disclosed his standard magic line – “You look sensational, when can we meet.” Using this on all prospects meant that he was bound to have a success rate with a fairly significant proportion. Ladies be ware!

Similar to the social media brand that I had build that sparked a connection with someone in my extended network last year, my friend’s approach reminded me of writing pitches for consulting projects – it is about persistence and a numbers game, someone is bound to bite – although my friend was reluctant to share his stats or success rate.

It was clear that social media had not only changed the way that we connect as humans but the way that we do business. I already used AirTasker, Airbnb and Expert 360 platforms and recently launched a collaboration with AirPT to offer health and wellness experiences (AirBreath&Be) – did I have space for Tinder?

A natural networker I seemed to meet people wherever I am and sometimes without even leaving my table and laptop at my local cafe (which had become my office). This proved essential when building my social following for my recently launched business AirBreathe&Be – where I have made a myriad of global connections as a result of my instagram following and likes. One of the most interesting people was in the Special Operations Team for Aston Martin (yes they designed Bond’s car) – even if this was a line, I was fascinated.

Who has time for Tinder with this level of organic engagement? A by product of following my path and channelling my energy into building my business meant that a by product was amazing connections with likeminded business people. You could say it was putting yourself out there with a purpose.

That said, not all of the stories are so glamorous. I once engaged a cleaner (new to Airtasker so no ratings to suggest he was potentially a gambler and crack addict) for my Airbnb apartment who left me a bunch of hand picked flowers (albeit from the garden across the road). A sweet gesture although somewhat creepy now that he has seen my profile and knows where I live.

Another time after listing an old television (left at my airbnb apartment) on Gumtree in exchange for dinner – intending the value of buying me dinner (around $30 from the local health cafe) and was invited out to dinner. Thanks but no thanks Dave.

With my love of people, travel and my city (Perth) and human connection in mind, I collaborated with AirPT for the launch of my new project AirBreathe&Be, offering health and wellness experiences across the globe – where you can meet a local (you may even meet me) who will show you the best health food, fitness or wellness experiences in their city.

Check it out by downloading AirPT Fitness for Apple or Android. And who knows, it may be the next dating app.
