Generally when we mention the word wealth, a natural reaction is to think of money.

Yet, the meaning of wealth can be different things to different people, some think of money whilst others might say health is real wealth and with that I could not disagree.

A philosophy that has resonated with me for some time is “Stay hungry, Stay humble” which has been popularised by boxing superstar Anthony Joshua.

I shared a post on LinkedIn recently where I discussed the application of this philosophy to everyday life and that of those who hold leadership positions in society. In a nutshell, “Stay hungry, Stay humble” reaffirms that you can be driven, ambitious and successful but you should always treat everyone the same and give everyone the same respect.

You see people will always remember how you made them feel, they’ll forget the things you’ve done or said, but they’ll never forget how you make them feel, so why should this not be a positive experience.

Our friends at explain the definition of character as “The mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual.”

In my humble opinion, real wealth is measured in your character and good health, not in materialistic objects, money or job titles. If you don’t have health then you have no opportunity to gather wealth, it’s meaningless. Likewise, if you don’t invest in your character and know yourself then what wealth can you really have?

Perhaps we should consider where we place our own emphasis on wealth. Is is about the amount of currency we have or is it about the effect we have on others? how we treat people and make everyone feel? regardless of where we are or where we might think we are in the constructed hierarchy of society.

As I said earlier, people will always remember how you made them feel. So don’t we owe it to not only them, but to ourselves to treat people how we would like to be treated and to embody the character that leaves a more positive affect on us all.

Maybe real wealth is not always where we expect it to be found.
