Taking on a new adventure has always been my happy place. Planning and then experiencing a new spot on the globe is one of life’s greatest pleasures.
As I try to dissect why this travel activity brings me so much joy, I’m struck by the realization of how much finding a new story means to me. This conscious union with an unfamiliar part of the world uplifts my spirit, again and again.
My thirst to add new stories is so attractive as it cultivates openness and provides an affectionate revelry of the senses. And a heightened clarity of what good fortune we are experiencing by being here on earth at all. To have this moment in time to move freely along a trail through the continents, meeting other travelers and seeing new vistas is exhilarating.
My latest search took me to Copenhagen, Denmark. From there I hopped onto the super luxe Crystal Serenity cruise ship to make my way through Norway, the Scottish Isles, Faroe Islands across the North Sea to Reykjavik, Iceland.
I enjoy pairing travel with a joyous occasion, so this trip was a chance to celebrate a special wedding anniversary. Crystal was the perfect choice as they seem to be the cruise line designed to make each guest feel special and taken care of 24/7. We had our every need met for the entire 8 days. It was heaven!
One of the highlights was meeting interesting people while sitting and having sushi at the Uma Uma restaurant, celebrity Chef Nobu’s specialty dining room and our favorite spot to eat on the ship. Making new friends is always a huge bonus when traveling by sea.
We selected from a long list of interesting excursions each day of our journey. Whether a scenic boat ride through the majestic fjords of Norway or one to seek out puffin birds nestled in the rocky crevices of a Faroe Island cliff – the magical moments offered were just the perfect setting for a whole new story.
The easygoing melding of all the wanderers and seekers, the vast seas, rocky coastlines, and the endless unparalleled beauty of nature feels like a graceful assembly of all that’s right with our world.
When I am in the moment and allowing the story to unfold, profound moments of lucidity happen. No longer the observer- I can feel the connection of all living things.
Capturing a new story is an invitation into limitless possibilities and an opportunity to live creatively without the constraints of any known outcome.
Traveling cultivate openness and easygoing trust in sheer luck and this trip was no exception.
