September is self care month

In honor of self care month, I wanted to start a dialogue about self care. First and foremost, please know it is not selfish to take care of yourself. It is vital.

Your relationship with yourself needs to be strong, loving and healthy. Be good to you. That means be as kind to yourself as you are to others. Do nice things for yourself. Forgive yourself. Talk to yourself in an encouraging, positive way.

Be the friend you need. One thing is for sure- you are going to have a long and lasting relationship with yourself, so be somebody you enjoy spending time alone with.

When we wake up each morning, we automatically take care of our bodies by showering and brushing our teeth. Why not take time every day to take care of your soul? Allocate every time to do something that nourishes and feeds your well being. Something that makes your heart happy. So many people feel guilty doing something good for themselves. Starting right now give yourself permission to play, to enjoy life and to be good to yourself.

Sometimes self care means saying no to something you don’t want to do, but agreed to anyway. It means drinking more water, getting more exercise, spending time with people who lift your spirits, and slowing down when you need to.
