The quickest way to be ahead is by getting started

Nicole Steffens is a 23-year-old Brisbane Entrepreneur, owner of 4 gyms across Brisbane & one in Toowoomba. She opened up her first gym when she was only 17 & haven’t been able to stop her thirst for business since. Her biggest passion & happiness in life comes from helping people become free & live their most free life!

Humble beginnings

Q: How did you get started and what or who inspired and empowered you to?

The main words of advice that really got me started were from my Mum in grade 10 when she said: “do what you love”. I’ve followed through with that advice to this day & I ONLY do things that I love & that light me up inside, I call it following my God-given purpose, which has resulted in me taking some big life & business risks (which have strongly paid off) & it’s also led me to live life very untraditionally.

Q: What unique and creative strategies if any did you use when you were first getting started?

I really didn’t have many strategies at the beginning! All I had was a vision to improve the gym & mindset industry. I pushed through a lot of hard times & worked long hours to make it happen. The first years were definitely the most difficult, but they built me into the leader I am today!

Mindset

Q: What mindset distinguished you from others who were doing the same thing? How did you develop it?

I think the biggest thing that distinguishes me from other personal trainers or gym owners who have failed along the way is:

  1. I had a constant growth mindset, I had no prior business experience so I had to figure it out along the way. Youtube & Google became my best friends! I would ask as many questions to as many people as possible who had more experience than me. I have invested a lot of money into coaching & masterminds. Without this growth, I would have failed a long time ago.
  2. I chose to never give up. No matter how hard it got, I kept going, & there were so many times I wanted to give up! I even went for job interviews at one stage! There was something deep down inside of me that just said ‘you can get to the end of this week’, ‘if there’s anyone who can make this work, it’s you’, ‘if you can get through this, imagine what else you can get through’.

What is your definition of Success

I define success as living by & prioritizing your time based on your Purpose, Mission & highest Values, which results in true fulfillment. Fulfillment should be the goal, not whatever society depicts ‘success’ to be. A person can choose to look on social media & compare themselves to what appears to be a bigger & better business, car, lifestyle, relationship or body, trying to find success externally, or they can look inside themselves & discover what truly is their own personal purpose, mission & highest values. When we identify & live by these, our self worth, happiness, gratitude & our ability to go through challenges rapidly & dramatically increases, which will always lead to individual fulfillment & “success” no matter what you’re doing in life.

Failure

Q: What do you think is the main reason why some people face failure when going after their vision?

Everyone will face failure, I still face it daily. Especially if you want to be a thought leader, visionary or build something extraordinary! Failing makes you stronger, it teaches you faster & helps you grow. The bigger the business or career you want to build, the more failures you’re ultimately going to go through! Any role model of yours equally has been through many challenges & failures. So embrace failing & making mistakes. The real question is about whether or not your vision, faith & grit is strong enough to take you through the failures?

What is the best piece of advice you have received or came across and would like to share with everyone?

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received is if you want to excel in anything, find a coach or mentor who had the success you envision & learn from them. You’ll be able to fast track your success, by learning from their mistakes. Whether you intern, pay for coaching, join a mastermind or watch Youtube & listen to podcasts or audiobooks, you can fast track your journey by getting a coach or mentor who can show you the path. This has made more of a difference than anything else in my journey so far!
