“ IF WE MANIFEST OUR OWN REALITY, THEN IN THIS MOMENT I HAVE DONE A VERY POOR JOB”

Was all I could think to myself, sweating profusely with a 102-degree fever, laying wrapped up in two sweaters, heavy socks and covered by both a comforter and 17-lb weighted blanket.

I like to think that I am a beacon of health, I write about it, after all, eat healthy, meditate and exercise. Not to mention the 1000‘s of supplements I ingest on a daily basis.

The “rest” thing I am not too good at, in fact, I fail miserably there if I am honest. Two back to back 45-minute run classes ( HIIT ) with a trip to the acupuncturist in between. He told me not to run the next day. I did anyway. After staying outside far too long by the Hudson River in the freezing cold, having a business meeting about YogaFit in China with my friend and associate Helen, I realized I was not dressed properly. And then went running. So much for following “doctor’s orders.”

It started with a sneezing fit that day and manifested into what has felt like a major cleanse. It’s only been four days but feels like an eternity. A self-admitted exercise addict ( it feels so good ) and workaholic ( I get so much done), it’s hard to slow down. I do stop and drop for a meditation most days but aside from that its go time. If we are not careful, then “go time” can leave us gone.

My healing is taking the form of listening to my body, acupuncture, and lots of reflection.

How can I contribute to my health on a daily basis? Good health is more than just exercise, supplements and meditation. It’s about the company we keep, the thoughts we have and the rituals we maintain. It’s also where we choose to live.

Every morning that I am well and in my hometown of New York City, starts with a long walk with my dog Bentley on the Hudson River. But prior to that many mornings my nutrition is just hot water with lemon, coffee and a handful of amino acids.

No more … I am adding this Superfood Smoothie to my morning wake up plan:

– 2 teaspoons of coconut oil

– 6 oz of almond milk

– ½ frozen banana

– teaspoon Maca

– teaspoon Cacao

– teaspoon Ginko

– tablespoon flax seeds

– tablespoon hemp seeds

– 1 scoop protein powder

– shot of espresso or coffee

While also adding this wellness drink/soup to my nighttime routine:

– 8 oz chicken or vegetable broth

– juice of one lemon

– ½ cup ginger finely chopped.

– Add vegetables if desired.

I also may add in the recipe from my book YogaLean Bran Tea.

Sometimes it takes a health crisis to have a wake-up call, I’m in gratitude this one was minor.

Listen to your body.

Namaste,

Beth
