woman entrepreneur eating foods we should avoid

Entrepreneurs face high-stakes demands, and to keep crushing their day, they’ve learned that what you don’t eat can be just as important as what you do.

From cutting carbs and processed foods to embracing whole, nutrient-dense meals, these entrepreneurs have discovered what keeps them energized and sharp. Whether you’re leading a team or simply trying to make it through your daily tasks with focus, their food habits could inspire your next meal.

Here’s what they avoid — and what they eat instead to stay on top of their game.

Vicky Smith: “Getting rid of our microwave was one of the best decisions I’ve made!”

“I avoid highly processed foods because they’re easy to eat mindlessly and leave me craving more rather than feeling satisfied. Getting rid of our microwave was one of the best decisions I’ve made! It’s helped me move away from ‘fast’ meals and be more intentional about what I eat.

Instead, I focus on fresh, wholesome options. On busy days, when I need quick and ‘convenient’ lunches, I’ll opt for a salad or vegetables with hummus. These simple choices keep me far more energized and satisfied than any processed alternatives.

While it sometimes takes a bit more planning, prioritizing fresh, whole foods has had a huge impact on my energy levels and focus throughout the day.”

Austin Helm: “The main thing is making sure the food is real food.”

“Energy is key to doing great work! And the food you put in your body is essential to your energy levels. The main thing is making sure the food is real food. Nothing processed, no unnecessary chemicals, all organic.

I warm up my stomach for the day with fermented foods like kimchi. Fruit is big for me. Acai, blueberries, and grapes are the main fruits I eat. I also love to eat fresh seafood (wild caught) and organic beef for my protein.

I snack on pickles, cheeses, Brazil nuts, cucumbers, and carrots. There are all different kinds of diets out there, but I have noticed that your body will process anything as long as it is real, fresh, and natural.”

Rachel Gargano: “I avoid are ultra-processed foods and foods high in added sugars.”

“When it comes to energy-draining foods, the ones I aim to avoid are ultra-processed foods and foods high in added sugars. Even though these may give us a brief energy boost, the quick blood sugar crash after is not worth it. These foods also have very few vitamins and minerals, many of which are necessary for energy production.

Instead, I try to reach for whole foods like complex carbs and protein for lasting energy. Plus, the best greens powder with plenty of naturally-derived micronutrients is always a go-to in my house.”

Kirill Bigai: “For breakfast, I avoid eating bread.”

“Being an entrepreneur is a huge responsibility, and to keep working hard it’s important to eat healthily and keep cravings in control.

For breakfast, I avoid eating bread and have a bowl of sprouts or fruit instead. I limit my intake of food with artificial sweeteners. It’s marketed as low-calorie, but according to researchers, it can disturb your gut health. I also limit my intake of dairy products during the day because they can make me sleepy and sluggish. Instead of that, I prefer juices with mixed fruit.

Another thing I avoid eating for lunch is a large portion of red meat. It takes more energy to digest, and can leave me feeling tired when I need to stay sharp.

My main focus is to maintain a balanced diet and keep myself hydrated. I prefer to eat whole grains and plant-based protein – that gives me steady energy and enhances my cognitive performance.”

Maria Anderson: “I avoid eating pasta, bread, and noodles for lunch.”

“What you eat is vital in keeping you active and energized. I usually avoid processed and excessive sugar-based products because they can increase sugar levels. You can feel so energetic at once and suddenly feel tired because these foods provide only temporary energy and lead to low productivity and lack of concentration.

I avoid eating pasta, bread, and noodles for lunch because they make me feel slow. Instead of that, I like to eat salads and juices to keep my sugar level intact and to keep myself hydrated throughout the day.

I also keep my caffeine intake limited – too much caffeine can disturb your sleep cycle, and a good eight hours of sleep is very important for an entrepreneur. I always keep myself hydrated, and eat protein, fiber, and vegetables. They help me maintain my energy level and concentrate.”
