Yep! I did. You see, I was one of the first to migrate away from cable about 8 years ago. I have been an avid streamer. Well, I just moved and I could not pass up the amazing deal from my internet provider, which reunited me to cable. So many choices! Anyway, last night, I clicked on “Bad Moms”. As a mom of multiples, it is hard for me to relate to the trials and tribulations of motherhood, as my experience has and continues to be quite complex. Regardless, it was pretty funny; but, more importantly, full of great messages. Here are a few:
- Don’t allow others to steal your joy. There is a difference between constructive advice and criticism, and tearing one down. Learn how to discern between the two. Embrace the advice, digest it, and see if it is apropos for you to make some positive change. But, if someone is deliberately tearing you down for their own benefit….well then, learn to let that go and press onward.
- Embrace change! Never feel as though you do not have a way out. Many times when we embark on the path of change, we stop ourselves because of the unknown. Embrace the unknown and select adventure. This life is way too short to be miserable in a career, relationship, or friendship. If something in your life is toxic, you have to expunge it from your life. Even in toxic circumstances, it can be easy to stay the course, because change is “just too hard”. Release that feeling. Change brings a new adventure to your life.
- Be honest! Yes! Be honest with yourself and others. So many people are self proclaimed, self aware, who simply are the most unself aware people I know. Primarily, they are not honest with themselves, first. You can pull the wool over someone’s eyes for the short term, but when you are not an honest player, the truth always comes out. Trust me! It may not be immediate, but it always comes out. So take a moment and do an inventory of your gifts, but also your short comings. Start to address each and how it affects your life. What positive change can you make? What do you see now? What path? Where is the clarity? Are you still running and jumping at the next thing, just because? Or, are you now ready to start with a fresh landscape of opportunity? You are the driver, but you have to be honest with your abilities. The good news is that you can work on every area of your life to drive you to the best version of you!
So you see, even a funny, little movie like Bad Moms can teach one a lot of lessons. You do not have to be the most popular, well spoken or best dressed person in the room. What you need is life experience, purpose, and honest character and motivation for change. Do this in small ways and watch your world explode with opportunity!
