I’m an entrepreneur. And, if you’re one too, you know that we THRIVE (pun intended) on business-oriented content. I love a good article, video, or workshop on ways that I can scale, improve my sales techniques, create better click funnels, increase my audience… you name it.

But, it’s especially entrepreneurs that also need to balance out this type of content – the “how can I constantly improve and soar to higher heights” with content rooted in staying grounded. Keeping our two feet planted on the ground. Tapping into spirituality, or whatever faith feels best to us and reminds us that we’re part of something bigger than the room we’ve been working in all day. Taking care of ourselves, and filling ourselves up BEFORE we show up for our businesses.

Raj Jana‘s “Stay Grounded” podcast in my pick for making sure that I can do more, faster in my business and career by staying grounded all the way through. Raj himself is a major inspiration to me: he’s a speaker, personal motivation coach, entrepreneur life coach, the founder of the JavaPresse Coffee Company, and an all-around all-star. We sat down to talk about his podcast and his motivation behind starting it.

1. What motivated you to start the Stay Grounded Podcast?
One of my first mentors had a heart attack and died just three months before he was due to retire after spending 37 years at the same company.  At the same time this was happening, I was just getting my coffee company, JavaPresse, off the ground. My mentor’s death made me realize that everyone in my circle was busy pushing off their happiness to a future date –  instead of making the most of what they had in front of them. I didn’t want that for my life so I committed to find a way to feel happy along the way to my bigger goals. Stay Grounded initially started as a JavaPresse mantra to inspire coffee drinkers to “stay grounded” in the moments that matter. Over time, that message grew into something much bigger – which birthed a podcast, an education platform, and level of impact in over 60 countries that was far beyond what I ever anticipated. Very grateful for the journey.

2. You’ve heard from so many experts over time as they’ve shared their best tips for happy, wholesome lives. Which piece of advice struck you the most, and why?
I think one of the best pieces of advice I’ve received on the podcast came from my very first guest, Akshay Nanavati, the Author of FEARVANA: The Revolutionary Science of How to Turn Fear into Health, Wealth and Happiness. Akshay described how none of the emotions you go through every day are inherently negative. Instead, all emotions are valuable and the way you feel in any given moment boils down to the relationship you have with your emotions. Anger, jealousy, sadness, and other “negative” emotions exist in our bodies for a reason – but those reasons don’t have to be associated with something bad. Instead, they can be the catalyst for something incredible. This episode was a powerful reminder to be kind to myself when “negative” emotions come up and inspired me to start my own journey of paying attention to all my emotions and the things that trigger them.

3. Walk us through your morning routine and evening routine.
Morning – Wake up, Brush Teeth, Exercise, Cold Shower, Meditate/Journal/Practice Gratitude/Make Coffee (it usually all meshes together), Start Day

Evening – Take Inventory of Everything I Learned and Accomplished, Plan the next day, Brush Teeth and drink water, Sleep

4. I know it’s hard to choose favorites – but which episode was your favorite to record?
So many! I feel like I’ve been growing with the show, and somehow, every episode allows me to experience the exact message I need to hear at that particular time. That being said, one of my favorite episodes was with an incredible woman named Adamaris Mendoza. The amount of insight and “aha” moments I took away from her near-death experiences helped better my life in more ways than one. My favorite episodes are always the ones that teach me something new about myself, and Adamaris’ episode definitely fit that bill.

5. Who’s your dream podcast guest?
Roger Federer. I grew up playing a ton of tennis and have always looked up to Federer. I love the way he conducts himself on the court and in his life and I’m inspired that he’s been able to maintain his peak long after most tennis players have passed theirs. It’d be a dream to explore his mind and discover how someone of his caliber creates work-life harmony while finding happiness, fulfillment, and success in the sport he loves.

6. What’s next for Raj Jana?
Stay Grounded has had a profound impact on so many people to date, and my primary focus is sharing and growing this movement in a way that empowers people to be more. We are investing a ton of time and energy towards developing new courses, creating better community structures, and giving back to our listeners in a way that serves as a gateway for accelerated growth. I’m super excited about the future, and for the opportunity to use my talents to make the world a better place to live in.
