People problem solve in their own way, developing their own systems to deal with life. But if you want to redefine your life, you need a new glossary. Most of us have a default operating system that is based on comparing ourselves with others, but you will never be the best you can be if you measure yourself this way.

Here are 4 Lessons to help maximize your Potential.

Lesson 1: Potential is Weakness Unrealized

The first step is to measure your potential against your own weaknesses, as opposed to someone else’s strengths. In order to do that, you must first understand what your strengths and weaknesses are. The definition of potential is weakness unrealized. We identify our mission, our purpose, and our level of potential by identifying and overcoming our weaknesses and turning them into strengths! With this level of thinking the realm of infinite possibilities is open wide.

Lesson 2: Your True Needs are Your Goals

You must learn to get in touch with what your true needs are. Your needs, quite simply, are your goals. When you learn how to identify your true goals, you achieve illumination. There are no limits on this journey except those posed by your own negative thinking. One must learn development tools for enhancing abilities to free ourselves from distorted negative thinking, to discover our potential, to maximize our power and to better guide our behavior toward achieving a more satisfying and successful lifestyle.

Lesson 3: Pursue Self-Development

Every person on the planet has an idea about what their perfect self would be like, but the process of life is not perfect. We never achieve a stage that is perfect no matter how good or elevated we may be. The best way to achieve perfection in life is to constantly pursue self-development. This then gives clear direction as to what decisions to make. Our inherent intelligences that are already at work within us are what enables us to fully understand ourselves by making our thinking patterns clear and by helping us to recognize our default operating systems. These intelligences are what need to be developed.

Lesson 4: Eight Ways to the Truth

Knowing who and what you are totally, both strengths and weaknesses, is critical to the truth, as well as clarity and understanding on a higher level. If we work on our strengths, we can achieve a certain degree of improvement. However, when we work on our weaknesses, the degree of improvement we experience is significantly enhanced. The following are eight ways to self-development.

1. Reflection; Mirroring — Mirroring shows us who we really are. Whatever bothers us about another is actually something within ourselves that is wrong or incorrect and needs attention.

2. Objectivity — In order to be honest with ourselves, we need to look at events and behavior without opinion. Previous opinions, biases, and beliefs blind us. Our failure to be objective disallows honest evaluation. In order to be objective, we need to be open to new data and we should adopt perceptions instead of beliefs. This way we are much more open to see, to adapt and to change.

3. Impersonal — One cannot take things personally. It generates emotion, and nothing lies to us more than emotions. When emotion is taken out of the equation, clearer minds prevail.

4. Whole Picture/Synthesis — The ability to perceive unity and integrate key components into a bigger picture. One needs to be able to synthesize information around them and place it into a larger system at work.

5. Unconditional Selflessness — We are always inclined toward taking care of our possessions and ourselves first. But we must not lose sight of issues and become self-centered. The lesson here is to take care of Number One, but only up to the point that it doesn’t jeopardizes honesty and fairness. Being kind, fair, and truthful with ourselves and others is an invaluable quality.

6. Focus on Virtues — It becomes clear that focusing on a virtue and attempting to employ it opens one up to unknown levels of inner strength. This strength gives courage and motivation to pursue courses of action and equally important, unlock an inner power and sense of well-being.

7. Development as Purpose — While having a purpose is good for us, developing potential is the key. This is because when we take responsibility for events and circumstances in our lives, we don’t leave our fate to the heavens. We have the power to accomplish, achieve and develop ourselves!

8. Following Proven Plans — You need models and rules to follow in order to achieve clarity, truth and understanding.

Your only competition in life is reaching your highest potential. You do not have to be like anyone else. You have your own special attributes that will take you wherever you need to go. Your level of accomplishment is up to you.
