Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you would have been exposed to at least one, if not all of the following “rules”

It may have come in the form of your mother’s well-meaning advice, a Tips & Tricks book or a Youtube guru.

Or in my case, all of the above.

A lot has changed since our parent’s generation and we should no longer feel obliged to follow these style standards.

NEVER WEAR A BLACK BRA WITH A WHITE TOP

This one is a classic. The once “tacky” faux pas has now been transformed into a stylish form of bra rebellion. Let those boobies stand out ladies! If it’s good enough for Carrie Bradshaw, it’s good enough for me.

MATCH YOUR BAG WITH YOUR SHOES

Nanna alert! This one is really unnecessary and just looks plain boring. Unless all black is your thing – I do love me some all black. Your accessories are the easiest way to put some creativity and personality into your look. Go nuts!

AVOID DOUBLE DENIM

Denim on denim can look sheek af if done correctly. Whereas the full denim look probably has an expiry date, the denim jacket with jeans ain’t going anywhere.

DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR THE OCCASION

This rule no longer applies. Just because it’s a Sunday brunch doesn’t mean you have to wear no make-up, hair in a messy bun and a baggy t-shirt. Be extra. Vice versa if it’s a fancy event, feel free to rock your blue jeans and leather jacket.

“BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE HOUSE, TAKE ONE THING OFF” Coco Chanel

People love quoting this. If you want to rock diamond earrings, 3 necklaces, 10 rings and a rainbow feather boa then DO YOU GIRLFRIEND.
