The rich and earthy smell of fall surrounds us. Overnight, the air has turned crisp and quiet in the elongated shadows of the fading sun. The earth feels cool and damp as crops fade and leaves transition from a providing dark cooling shelter to providing an elegant theater of color.

The abruptness of seasonal changes of the earth’s textures always electrifies me and fills me with excitement. I love the new energy I feel all around me!

The arrival of fall signals a time of transition – a time of change.

Fall-time asks everyone and everything in nature to shed what is no longer necessary and what no longer serves a purpose. In the garden of human life we are being asked to pull out the last of our nagging thought-weeds and to amend our foundational soil.

We are being asked to prepare our hearts and minds for inward reflection and personal growth.

In preparation for this journey within we need to tend to our lives like we would a garden. We need to eliminate any damage or disease remaining in our relationships, thoughts, habits and lives.

What do you need to let go of to truly create peace, abundance and good health in your body and soul?

Identify what is keeping you from fully enjoying your life. You may need to think back to the lessons and personal growth from your spring and summer. What kept coming up for you that you haven’t addressed yet?

Honor the season by taking a moment to reflect on what and who are no longer serving your highest interest and purpose in life.

In doing so you will identify all the leaves that need to fall off of your tree of life. Once you know what and who they are you are free to let them go, leaf by leaf. It’s time.

Fall is also the time when we need to make and spread the seeds of change from which we will blossom in spring. What potential changes in your life excite you? What would you like to change about yourself or your life that scares you? What just needs to happen?

Let positive thoughts, goals and dreams solidify and go to seed.

Feel the bounty of your life this harvest season as you fill up on love, focus on dreams, and shed dead weight.

May your soul garden be filled with the warmth of your roots and may your body be filled with abundant health from the rich soils of self-love and care you cultivate this and every season.

Autumn asks that we prepare for the future —that we be wise in the ways of garnering and keeping. But it also asks that we learn to let go—to acknowledge the beauty of sparseness. Bonaro W. Overstreet
