Perhaps you’re reading this because you’ve reached the end of your rope with your current career path. You wouldn’t be alone.

71% of employees are looking for new jobs at any given point, citing reasons like feeling under-recognized and under-supported, according to a survey conducted by the nonprofit Mental Health America and The Faas Foundation. Staying in a job where you feel unhappy on an everyday basis is not a good practice for maintaining your mental health.

But of course, this is easier said than done. A career change can be overwhelming. It can feel like you’ll never know enough about another field to apply for a new job, or that you’ll never make it past the screening round without past experience on your resume.

One thing that can determine your likelihood of securing a new job is living in or moving to a city that has a high concentration of open jobs in your desired field. Three industries with the most projected growth in employment through 2026 include healthcare, construction, and technology. For this guide, we will focus on the best cities for jobs in these three industries.

Here are the best cities for a career change into the healthcare, construction, and technology industries:

Healthcare: Boston, New York, or San Francisco

According to a recent study, the city of New York has the most job opportunities for the healthcare industry. There are currently over 100,000 open jobs waiting for you to apply and change your life. In Boston, there are over 75,000, and in San Francisco, there are over 72,000 open jobs.

These major U.S. cities have high population concentrations, which means there will always be a large demand for healthcare professionals to serve the increasing number of people who live there.

Construction: Boston, San Francisco, or Dallas

The same study reports a high number of open jobs in the construction industry in Boston, San Francisco, and Dallas. These cities clearly have a high demand in terms of growth and new construction, so finding a high-paying construction or construction management job shouldn’t be here to come by.

There are currently over 45,000 open construction jobs in Boston, over 65,000 in San Francisco, and over 35,000 in Dallas. Boston and San Francisco also happen to be two of the cities where construction workers get paid the most, which only adds to their potential as great options for someone looking to enter this field.

Technology: Washington D.C., New York, and San Francisco

The cities with the most open jobs in high-tech fields include Washington D.C., with over 100,000 opportunities. New York and San Francisco are close behind, with over 87,000 and over 70,000 open jobs in technology, respectively.

Jobs in technical fields are becoming more and more available as society becomes increasingly reliant on technology. STEM jobs are also linked to better pay and higher job security, which allows those who have them to live in some of the most expensive cities in the country.

Moving to a new city can be daunting, but sometimes a career change is exactly the push you need to start over again somewhere different. If you are interested in another industry than those highlighted here, let the links in this guide be a resource to determine some of the best cities in the U.S. to move to if you are looking for a career change into a specific field.
