“You cannot just exist in this life. You have got to try to live. If you’re waking up thinking there has got to be more to your life than it is, believe in your heart of hearts, it is. But to get to that life . . .”

Whether you’re ready to ditch that slavery-by-consent job to start a business, end your unhealthy relationship with junk food, finally write that book, or cut the cord to your addiction to your current life, as Steve Harvey goes on to say, “You’ve got to jump.”

And it really is about overcoming your addiction to the comfort your current life is affording you, even if you’re miserable.

“Every next level of your life will demand a different you.” ~ Leonardo DiCaprio

We’re not talking about material security, though that’s a byproduct. It’s the illusion of personal identity you’ve carved out for yourself that you can’t let go.

According to author Marianne Williamson, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” She says, “It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.”

Williamson got it partially right. But, our deepest fear is actually letting go of who we think we are because it’s comfortable—good or bad. We fear it more than being the ideal “you” sitting in your mind’s eye right now.

ARE YOU ADDICTED TO YOU?

You know how to do the current you front and back, right?

Whether slowing sinking into depression every Sunday night; motivating your sales team; declaring nothing goes your way, or making that luxury car payment every month—you’ve proven you can do it, and you do it well.

We’re all addicted. In Western society, the dissonance between our minds and what’s in our hearts is numbing.

We self-medicate daily with food, social media, drugs, even more materialism, sex, technology—or worse, we take it out on others.

Addiction to a false sense of security will keep you numb and from making that jump from just existing to really living every single time.

See the conflict? Moreover, can you feel the conflict?

It’s time to dive into that conflict and use it to make magic in your life.

WORKING THE MAGIC

If you’re serious about turning the gifts you were endowed with at birth into meaning and purpose, you’re going to have to break your addiction to listening to your thoughts by turning to the power and wisdom of the heart.

It starts by asking, “If I could ditch my life and become the person I really see myself as, what would that look like?”

But, there’s something you need to know beyond the usual platitudes such as: you must replace bad habits with good ones, changing your life means changing the people in your life, you will be defeated by self-doubt, not by the mistakes you make . . .

If success gurus, books, online courses, and seminars told you there’s a final test that will probably break you, would you stick it out?

We all know being successful requires facing your fears. But, if success gurus were bound to full disclosure, they wouldn’t have any customers. We’d all be armchair warriors.

Steve Harvey is no success guru, and maybe because he’s not, he’s not afraid to tell it like it is in this surprising gem of a video.

ABOUT THOSE ROCKS

Your parachute is contained within the silence between the busy notes of your life. It’s where the magic is. Always present, it’s your heart waiting to open.

Truthfully, all of your life is magic, but when you’re afraid, you can’t see or feel it.

This particular magic happens in the emptiness between who you used to be and who you really are—magnificent beyond measure.

In the silence of your hang-ten, you will also hit rocks. Toes curled, the rocks you scrape upon is your shadow self (ego) popping in to ask if you want to quit and go back to “safety.” Ego’s rocks just keep coming.

What gurus rarely share is that ego saves a really big, really jagged rock for near the end.

Bloodied, you will be broken.

If you knew you were going to be broken in advance, would you even venture to the cliff?

Here’s the secret.

By staying open to your vast emptiness, the magic obliterates the shadows, using those same rocks to destroy your ego, opening your parachute—your heart.

Every scrape means a piece of your ego (metaphorically, a rock) is annihilated. Being broken wide open exposes your heart!

“Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

So, are you seriously ready to jump? What are you going to do?

Let me help you if I can, because I’ve been there. I jumped, then expected everything to come together and when it didn’t, I spent years of my life disillusioned.

As a writer, in the beginning, I couldn’t pay my friends and family to read my work. They weren’t my fans and thus didn’t understand what I was doing—or why. The next problem, I didn’t have any readers. If I could just get someone to read my . . .

But, you know what? I never turned back. I didn’t retreat to the cliff of life. I kept writing anyway. I’m still free-falling. Now, thousands have requested to read my work and continue to subscribe.

ABOUT YOUR PARACHUTE

Along the way I’ve learned a thing or two, or three:

  1. Your freefall is your unlimited potential. Once you say yes to jumping, your freefall unleashes your infinite potential. Stay in freefall for the rest of your life. It will never disappoint you and you will never stop evolving. Your heart never stops expanding.
  2. Refining your gifts is a process. At first, I dabbled in screenplays, nonfiction, fiction, a children’s book, blogging, etc., until I found my groove. Don’t be afraid to dabble while you find your You may lose a lot of new followers confused by a changing message but by being authentically you every day, you will remain in alignment with your heart.
  3. Be willing to dare to redefine success. Western culture and conditioning have a pretty narrow definition of success which can put you back on the boat of unhappy slavery-by-consent if you aren’t willing to redefine what makes you happy. Ask yourself what freedom looks like to you.

Whether or not you achieve big success or are just trying to figure out how to be your best self and make a difference in the world, you most likely face loss, disappointment, and disillusionment.

Kind of sounds like life anyway, right? You’re reading this; didn’t you make it through?

Life unavoidable, you have a choice to make. The fantastic thing is, once you make that choice, then all future decisions are already made. Just follow the road signs.

“. . . you change the world by being you, fully conscious, fully empowered,
fully connected.”
~ Awakening Leadership
