I recently had the opportunity to meet Steve Nygren while we were at the Global Wellness Summit in Italy last fall. Steve told me about this community he founded years ago outside of Atlanta, Georgia. I was very intrigued, a type of nature community outside of Atlanta, Georgia? It seemed like an interesting location to have a sort of wellness village if you will. That is until you actually step foot on the expansive property of this community called Serenbe.

Serenbe is nestled in the midst of a forest just 30 minutes south of Atlanta, Georgia. Steve has spent the better part of 20 years studying biophilic design and the health benefits of building community in harmony with nature. As Steve told me, “the land found us.” Steve wasn’t shopping for property nor did he ever envision his future in building a town rich in exquisite thoughtful design. He bought the property and built Serenbe in an effort to protect the land.

The layout of the neighborhoods within Serenbe are quite unique. Nygren wanted the look of different European villages with homes nestled closer together enveloped in nature and many with front porches closer to the tranquil streets which allow the ease of conversation between neighbors to transpire. Even each cross walk within Serenbe has blueberries growing on vines which you can snack on while you transverse through the neighborhoods.

I was so thankful that Steve took the time to tell us the story of Serenbe and also give us a tour via golfcart which by the way is the best way to get around next to walking.

I learned so much from what he has done and what he intends to do with the evolution of Serenbe. I hope you enjoy the interview and the scenery!
