The Corona virus is spreading over the world & some countries declared the state of emergency. State of emergency – what an intimidating term, right? And also, what does that really mean?

In Spain, my beautiful chosen home, we are on lockdown until mid April, which means people are only allowed to leave their houses when going to see a doctor, going to work or grocery shopping. That is a very new situation, which makes many people feel uneasy & a little scared.

But during the first week of lockdown, I experienced a huge shift – in nature & humanity. So I asked myself, what if this pandemic, a disease that already killed too many people worldwide (even one is too much), could have an unexpected positive impact?

In this article I’m going to share my thoughts about the hidden potential of this crisis, to share a different point of view – one full of hope for us & our planet.

Corona – a secret message?

The modern world is full of distractions, we perfected the art of being busy, even numbing ourselves with irrelevant things.

  • Binge watching on Netflix
  • Shopping the newest fashion (& the shops have new collections almost every month)
  • Spending hours on Social Media
  • Mindlessly chasing money
  • Always wanting more, more, more

At the same time, we lose more & more real connections. We feel lonely, empty inside & oftentimes a bit lost in this fast-paced world. Trying to keep up with the speed can leave us drained, feeling like we’ve failed & lead to anxiety and depression.

But instead of working through our emotions, allowing them to be there, we numb ourselves even more. Even though our medical treatments improve steadily, the effect of the modern life can be seen in the mental health of humanity.

Perhaps there is also something good in this compulsory break in which we have to take a step back. Perhaps we have used exactly this possibility to rethink ourselves, our economic decisions and the consequences for the environment.

In my town, Palma de Mallorca, people already started supporting local businesses from day one! It was so beautiful to see all the supportive souls around me & what if this is not just a short-lived movement, but even a new solution for our economy?

What if, in times of political debates & the rise of populists all over the world, we now create a collective consciousness based on the idea of coherence, love, humanity & responsibility for our planet?

The changes are tangible – even for me

I usually wake up to the noise of cars, but since the lockdown, a wonderful choir of birds, nestled in the trees in front of my house, give a little concert every single morning. And even during the day, I can hear them sing joyfully.

After there were many (false) news about nature already healing, I can feel & smell a change in the air already!

There is also a lot of personal potential within this crisis. Now, that we are not mindlessly running from A to B, working extra hours & exhaustedly falling on our sofas at night, people have the time to really think about what they want from life, what they could change & if they’re truly happy!

As a Women’s Empowerment Coach, I’ve received many mails & messages from women telling me they’ve discovered their inner creatrix, finally knowing what it is, that truly lights them up! Could there be anything more powerful, than humanity shifting into a new era of happiness, contentment & love?

It might be difficult to see the potential now, that we are in the midst of the crisis, worrying about our financial situation, our health & the future. But I do believe, that we will come out of this as a stronger community, with new ideas for our lives & environment!
